Follow-up re: Staff Feedback Survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Last Friday during Staff Crew share your thinking on needs\/struggles\/ideas related to both our student and adult teams. Thank you for your thoughtful responses – it was really awesome to read your responses and clearly you (or many\/most of you) had lots to say! Truthfully, we DO APPRECIATE THE INPUT!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have been sorting through your responses with the help of our ICCL team to determine action steps (see picture below). More to come on ideas for NEXT STEPS!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we look through grade books we can tell that things are really coming together! Thank you for continuing to give our students and families timely and meaningful feedback. At this point in the trimester we expect that there should be somewhere between 4-8 graded assignments in Synergy. <\/strong>Midterm reports will go out 10\/29… next Friday!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our new letter grade calculation scale in the process of being created by the district. Apologies for the slowness here… it is taking them longer to produce than we expected!! Here is what that scale will look like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comment Bank in SpeedGrader <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can save comments to a comment bank in SpeedGrader.<\/a>  This will allow you to use the same comments over and over.  Unfortunately, the comment bank cannot be used on the Canvas Teacher App.  It can only be used when grading on the computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canvas Professional Development:<\/em><\/strong>The opportunity to participate in the Canvas Certified Educator series continues. The next 6-week course begins on Monday, October 25. New Groups from Kristin & Noelle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kristin and Noelle (our counseling intern) are feeling STOKED to be starting two groups in the coming weeks. Kristin is leading a DBT skills group, and Noelle is leading a Family Systems process group. We would love to host these groups during Crew on Mondays (Noelle’s group) and Tuesdays (Kristin’s group) in Mark’s room. Our goal is for the groups to remain relatively small (5-7 students each), with the hope that we can expand and offer additional options as we start to find our stride! At this point, we have identified some students through individual counseling sessions who have also expressed interest in participating. We’d love to hear from you as well! If you have any students who you suggest we meet with and consider for either group, please connect with us before the end of next week (Friday 10\/29). We will send group rosters as soon as they are set. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would love your support in providing these students with a more intensive level of mental health care each week. Thank you for your consideration in excusing them from crew on either Mondays or Tuesdays. Please reach out to us with any questions and concerns. We would love to talk to you about these groups in more depth if you are interested! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notes from the Leadership Class<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Leadership students (led by Michelle!) have been working on some incredible projects! The mural in the cafeteria… a peer academic support system… a huge fall festival… and more!! BIG UPS to Michelle and these students. Below are some messages from those students:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps most urgent is that we will need at least 4-5 staff volunteers to help run the Fall Festival (see #1 below). In many schools these evening events are part of your “duty” rotation… but we are willing to timesheet folks to make this successful! Please use the form below to indicate your interest. Thank you!!! The kids are stoked \ud83d\ude42<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Leadership is planning a Fall Festival!<\/strong> Our beloved Brinson campus will be decked out in fall decor, and host lots of fun activities. The festival will take place October 27 <\/strong>from 5:30 to 8:30 PM<\/strong>. We plan to use rooms 1 and 2, as well as the cafeteria. We will have a large variety of activities, like Just Dance, movies, carnival games, a costume\/outfit contest, and more. We have made a large effort to ensure that this event is COVID safe, by setting up an outdoor seating area for food, requiring a mask (that isn\u2019t a Halloween mask), setting up hand sanitizing stations and encouraging overall hygiene throughout the event. We do need staff volunteers for two hour shifts, so if you\u2019re interested please sign up here<\/a>. If you\u2019d like more information, here is the proposal<\/a>.<\/li>
  2. FOOD DRIVE: <\/strong>Leadership is running a food drive until November 18th. Collection boxes and decoration supplies will be dropped off (if they haven’t been already). Please take some time (perhaps just a few students?) to decorate these boxes in a way that represents your Crew’s vibe!<\/li>
  3. PROFICIENCY DAY:<\/strong> The peer tutoring group (name?) had the idea to move up our Proficiency Day to next Thursday, 10\/28, from 8-12. There is a solid group of students that are volunteering to come in and act as peer tutors for students who need to catch up and\/or revise work on that day (which would otherwise be a no student day). We will need a support staff member to help out with this effort… We will circle back with you all about this but in the meantime please let Zach know if you are interested!
