It was awesome to usher 2021 OUT with a week of really incredible Intensives, and I want to extend my appreciation to all of you, including Yen Ling for her organizing, Caleb for his driving, our Student Support Team for managing the Academic Intensive and to ALL OF YOU for the big push to make Intensives possible for our students!! THANK YOU!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we look ahead it is clear that much about the future remains, unfortunately&#8230; <strong><em>unclear! <\/em>However, we DO know that COVID or not, some things are enduring no matter what: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Creating positive, caring and <span style=\"color:#a70003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">&#8220;warm demand&#8221;<\/span> <em><strong>RELATIONSHIPS<\/strong><\/em> with every individual kiddo in your class so each student feels known, seen, and like they matter to you<\/li><li>Building <strong><em>RELEVANCE<\/em><\/strong> into your curriculum and lesson plans through <span style=\"color:#a70003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">real world connections<\/span>, through opportunities for <span style=\"color:#a70003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">student choice and voice<\/span>, through <span style=\"color:#a70003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">use of community experts,<\/span> or even through student work formats that include <span style=\"color:#a70003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">creativity<\/span> or that mimic what professionals in the field produce<\/li><li>Structuring <strong>RIGOR <\/strong>(and SUPPORT) into every lesson so that students feel <span style=\"color:#a70003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">challenged  by you AND encouraged to push themselves<\/span>, so that students have clear opportunities to take responsibility for their learning, to <span style=\"color:#a70003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">participate<\/span> in class and to <span style=\"color:#a70003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">produce evidence<\/span> of their thinking and learning every day.<\/li><li><strong>And maybe most important of all&#8230;<\/strong> that as a team of adults we keep in mind<span style=\"color:#0073a4\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> <strong>SELF CARE,<\/strong> <strong>TEAMWORK<\/strong><\/span> (interdependence, collaboration, and care for each other), and <span style=\"color:#0073a4\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>FUN<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;. because without these three things we can&#8217;t be our best and&#8230;. well, life is short, so let&#8217;s take care of each other!<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"background-color:#97ddef\">COVID and Masking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Omicron looming large we obviously need to be ready for anything in the coming weeks, but<strong> it seems wise to <em>EXPECT<\/em> an increase in student and staff absences as we navigate folks staying home for cold\/flu symptoms as well as actual positive cases.<\/strong> <span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">I have not heard anythin<\/span>g more than what all of us received from Steve Cook on Friday&#8230; so we are just going to do what we can, which includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>in both the announcements, family communications, and in person, reminding students to double down on careful and consistent mask wearing<\/li><li>making efforts to keep students spread out during lunch while unmasked, and OPENING DOORS to increase air flow at lunch<\/li><li>keeping Canvas as the dominant and default location for lesson materials, lesson plans, and student resources<\/li><li>keeping your Canvas routines consistent and clear for students who are in class <strong><em>and<\/em><\/strong> absent<\/li><li>preparing for lesson plans that subs can follow (whatever that might mean to you!)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"background-color:#97ddef\">2nd Trimester Classes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your new class lists should all be up to date in Synergy however we KNOW there will be some wiggles and changes as we navigate Monday and the 1st week back! Please let us know any issues that come up!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Student Schedule Changes <strong>ALL<\/strong> need to go through this form that has been emailed to students and parents!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We ask students to attend AT LEAST 1-2 days of their schedule before requesting any changes. Draft topics are here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thursday Crew Teams Meeting 3:20 &#8211; 4:00.<\/strong> Plan on gathering with your grade level Crew team to do some Crew curriculum planning for the 2nd trimester. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Friday Staff Crew<\/strong> &#8211; this Friday is one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1OoPfJ3IZ-ERLk2zdhRKLN9fX-VAFJxtieX9uj06aQZw\/edit#gid=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Staff Crew Fridays<\/a>! Yen Ling is signed up to bring some goodies&#8230; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"background-color:#97ddef\">Crew<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thursday Jan 6th<strong> transcript lesson in 9th &#8211; 11th grade Crews<\/strong>. Details coming from Jen Rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday Jan 7th &#8211; <strong>Community Meeting Schedule<\/strong> in the 2nd half of Crew on Friday!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Trimester 2, we are down to two Senior Crews, one led by Heidi and the other by Yen Ling. Thanks to these two for keeping the Senior Crew &#8220;torch&#8221; burning. Allie and Anita will be working on helping us develop our Senior Project requirement for this year and for planning ahead for a coherent Senior Crew plan for 2022-23 and beyond!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TWO upcoming surveys to be facilitated in Crew:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EL Education Student Crew Survey<\/strong>: The purpose of this is purely internal&#8230; it is designed to help <strong>us<\/strong> IMPROVE how we run Crew this year (and beyond). Crew teachers will analyze the data from these surveys during SIW and\/or Thursday afternoon meeting times and will ldesign Crew curriculum\/structure changes to improve our outcomes on the &#8220;three pillars of Crew&#8221; (Relationships\/Community, Habits of Scholarship, College\/Career) for all students. <strong>This survey will be administered Monday January 17th AND followed up on Tuesday January 18th to ensure 100% participation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>YouthTruth Survey<\/strong>: Once per year, District wide survey on academics, engagement, culture and more. We will review the data internally AND it is part of larger District wide data set.<strong>This survey will be administered Monday January 24th AND followed up on Tuesday January 25th to ensure 100% participation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"background-color:#97ddef\">Intensives &#8211; Looking Back and Looking Ahead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"color:#f60408\" class=\"has-inline-color\">ACTION ITEM: <\/span><\/strong>Can I please get your photos??!! For multiple important marketing related reasons I would LOVE to get your Intensive photos ASAP!! <strong>Please drop them into <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/photos.google.com\/share\/AF1QipNnGd4Twt7n-Wu9i0dc5r4FcBq6A637eUvaIQaur83FS4rVE_I1f30jPWsl6Z545Q\" target=\"_blank\">THIS FOLDER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Upcoming<\/strong> <strong>Changes to our 2nd Round of Intensives<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color:#0073a4\" class=\"has-inline-color\">MORE ADVANCE PLANNING<\/span><strong> <\/strong>to allow for improved risk management, teacher prep time coordination and communication regarding logistics and student groupings. We will be publishing our updated SIW plan for the 2nd trimester on Wednesday this week and asking for  your input on planning time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color:#0073a4\" class=\"has-inline-color\">BETTER SYSTEM TO ENSURE TEACHER PREP TIME DURING WEEK OF INTENSIVES<\/span>: Ensure that between teaching partners and additional staff every teacher gets an hour of prep time each day and that as we schedule\/design each intensive, we build in this prep time. If an Intensive does not allow for this (for ex. you and your teaching partner are out in the field all day with students) then we need to find a work around which could include prep time paid on a timesheet ahead of time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color:#0073a4\" class=\"has-inline-color\">CALENDAR CHANGE FOR NEXT ROUND OF INTENSIVES:<\/span> Our 2nd round of Intensives was supposed to take place the week after Spring Break. HOWEVER, based on COVID relaities, the tricky &#8220;shoulder season&#8221; type weather, and the short planning horizon, we have decided to move our 2nd round of Intensives into an &#8220;Intersession&#8221; style week in the 3rd trimester. <strong>Intensives have been re-scheduled for the week of May 3rd &#8211; 6th. <\/strong>Seniors will still be on campus and those who need the credit can still participate! There ARE a few things related to this date change for us to discuss as a team (for example, academic intensive), but we wanted to get you this information ASAP as it may impact your 2nd and 3rd trimester curriculum planning. This 5 week delay will HOPEFULLY help us with COVD, weather AND planning time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Here is our internal<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1ZS3OPOn2DFQEt6gFjdrTu6jB6KCy3uoghHcR49KlXsU\/edit#gid=0\" target=\"_blank\"> &#8220;major dates calendar&#8221; <\/a>that shows when our grading day, our 2nd round of student led conferences and our revised intensives will fall!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FOR SOCIAL MEDIA STIPEND<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friends of Realms is looking for a staff member on the ground at each school to capture, write and post 4-6 pieces of Facebook and Instagram content per month from January &#8211; June, 2022.&nbsp;<br>The focus of the content should highlight student activities and experiences&nbsp;that fall outside&nbsp;of typical district programming and are unique to Realms schools with funding made possible by Friends of Realms. Additionally, the Friends of Realms would like to collaborate with&nbsp;these individuals when we have fundraising initiatives like Family Night Out (2-3 in 2022), Banff Film Festival, and our Annual Appeal to create social content for our social channels.&nbsp;<br>Content can be photo or video, will need short captions for each post, and must feature only students who have a signed media waiver.&nbsp;<br>Compensation for each staff member will be $500.&nbsp;Community Management is not required.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome Back!
