{"id":325,"date":"2020-04-12T18:09:41","date_gmt":"2020-04-12T18:09:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/roger.white\/?p=325"},"modified":"2020-04-12T18:11:04","modified_gmt":"2020-04-12T18:11:04","slug":"staff-update-week-of-4-13-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/roger.white\/2020\/04\/12\/staff-update-week-of-4-13-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Staff Update: Week of 4-13-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Update Your Weekly Schedule Links on RHS@Home<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have updated the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1wFGtFVzs-nmCxavrcED7LfqsTqI6o0ly6Di2fJBjT-g\/edit\">Weekly Schedule<\/a> document that is embedded on <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/gapps.bend.k12.or.us\/rhshome\/home\">RHS@Home<\/a> so it is ready for the week &#8211; please make sure your personal assignment and WebEx links are live and correct for the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Some of you use the RHS@Home site to link to your Google Classroom Stream page, others make the link go directly to the assignments for the day\/week. I am not sure if one is better than the other&#8230; either way, please just make sure your links are working!<\/li><li>I have heard form a few students that they would prefer if you can post the assignments for the week at the beginning of the week rather than just one day at a time. That requires &#8220;getting ahead&#8221; of the students, and is not easy&#8230; just thought I&#8217;d share the feedback<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Week 2 Student Survey Results<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We don&#8217;t have a TON of responses yet, but those we have are really useful to look at! I encourage you to look at the pie charts to see overall trends, but to be honest, <span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">it is even MORE useful to take a look at individual kids&#8217; responses where you can get some insight into WHO is struggling in your class &#8211; <em><strong>and then reach out!!<\/strong><\/em> <\/span><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/14DtgctIsDAQn_G3SMcho0_0FyTE_7pLHVBnTRANkMPI\/edit#responses\" target=\"_blank\">Link to results in &#8220;forms mode&#8221;<\/a> (you can see pie charts AND individual responses here). I will be pushing it out by email today to see if we can get other students to weigh in, especially those who are less engaged right now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some take aways so far: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Crew timing seems to be OK for most respondents thus far<\/li><li>Many students WOULD be interested in &#8220;WebEx Work Time&#8221;<\/li><li>The &#8220;time spent on school&#8221; pie is really interesting and seems to point to the fact that we are getting the &#8220;work load&#8221; pretty close to right&#8230; certainly not &#8220;way too heavy&#8221; so far<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Staff Meetings This Week<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">8:30AM &#8211; 9:45AM Tuesday and Thursday in my room: <a href=\"https:\/\/bendk12.webex.com\/meet\/roger.white\">https:\/\/bendk12.webex.com\/meet\/roger.white<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Agenda Topics Include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Teaching Team<\/strong> &#8211; digging into your observations\/feedback on the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/172VBVxbP0J7Wki3VM7hqCE5646EgJs4YDgI4BOk6ZTg\/edit\">table in our staff meeting agenda<\/a> from last week and working to try and come up with solutions and innovations geared towards building connection and engagement. Also, taking a look at how to use grading practices here early on to do the same. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Support Team &#8211; <\/strong>continuing to work on and strategize on reaching out to struggling kids using our <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1Mri312axm9Gx9AZHdnJ0K14BT-qMJPFHd_zhHGxZ-v4\/edit#gid=577394045\">RHS@Home Student Tracker<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Possible Schedule Ideas to Consider&#8230;. Geared to Build Connection &amp; Engagement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am thinking about building connection beyond Crew and wondering about a few <strong><em>ideas for your consideration<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Grade based &#8220;Optional Webex Work Sessions&#8221;<\/strong> &#8211; quite a few students expressed interest in this idea on the survey&#8230;?<\/li><li><strong>Trying out live WebEx class 1x\/week (say 30-40 minutes),<\/strong> recording it, and letting students know that if they attend, then their assignment is done for the day. Attendance+participation=completion. Students who don&#8217;t\/can&#8217;t attend watch the recorded video asynchronously and then complete short comment\/question\/task back to you&#8230;?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">We will check in on these ideas, and OTHER IDEAS you might have, during staff meetings this week!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New EL Education Supports For Virtual Learning!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EL is working hard and fact to keep us well supported!
