{"id":726,"date":"2021-04-04T21:07:30","date_gmt":"2021-04-04T21:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/roger.white\/?p=726"},"modified":"2021-04-04T21:11:35","modified_gmt":"2021-04-04T21:11:35","slug":"4-3-21-staff-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/roger.white\/2021\/04\/04\/4-3-21-staff-update\/","title":{"rendered":"4-3-21 STAFF UPDATE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color:#a30003\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>ED FOUNDATION 2021 PERSEVERANCE AWARD\/SCHOLARSHIP<\/strong> &#8211; your nominees!?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br><\/strong>Each year we have the opportunity to nominate <strong>up to 3<\/strong> graduating seniors for the Ed Fundation&#8217;s <a href=\"\/\/\/Users\/roger.white\/Downloads\/Education%20Foundation%202021%20Perseverance%20Award%20Program%20Guidelines.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Perseverance Award<\/strong><\/a>. It will be awards to <strong>1 or 2 of our graduating high school students that demonstrate &#8220;perseverance&#8221; by overcoming difficult life challenges to graduate high school and have higher education or trade school plans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scholarship award amounts will be based on available funding for the program, typically between <strong>$1,000-$2,000 per recipient,<\/strong> or at the general discretion of the Education Foundation Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We can nominate up to 3 RHS Seniors and 1 <em>or<\/em> 2 of them will be selected!!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Please complete this <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSd9kNnseEuSnKu3goSms3_505qrYQgV5utUiD1ylKhGHBMYXw\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" target=\"_blank\">quick nomination form!<\/a><\/strong> I would love to have nomination submissions from all teachers if possible!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>MEETINGS FOR THIS LAST WEEK OF HYBRID<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NO SOC MEETING on Wednesday April 7th<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CREW TEACHING TEAM: PLANNING &#8211; Crew teachers need some time to do some <em><strong>calibration and collaboration<\/strong><\/em> on Crew lesson plans and curriculum going forward from here. I&#8217;d like to set aside one hour for this team to meet on Wednesday. This not an all staff meeting&#8230; just Crew teachers and is dedicated to lesson\/curriculum planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ALL STAFF MEETING: CLASS NORMS\/SSC\/CHARACTER &#8211; I would like to set aside one hour for our staff to meet this Wednesday. Topics include a &#8220;re-introduction&#8221; to Habits of Scholarship, Classroom Norms, Classroom Management and an update from the SSC on systems etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I would like to schedule these meetings at the time of day that is LEAST DISRUPTIVE to the effective use of your time!<\/strong> In MY MIND, that means that the meetings probably should be back to back (as opposed to splitting up the day) and in the morning, giving you time to follow up afterwards if needed. <strong><span style=\"color:#a30003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">How about this:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Crew Team: 10AM- 11AM<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>All Staff: 11:15AM &#8211; 12:15PM<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color:#a30003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Can you let me know if that DOES NOT work for you?! I will add it as a calendar event and invite you and you can use the Outlook cal invite to let me know if you can&#8217;t make it for some reason. <strong><em>THANK YOU ALL!<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color:#a30003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">BELL SCHEDULE AND &#8220;STAFF SCHEDULE&#8221; FOR ALL IN<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is the bell schedule for &#8220;All In&#8221;. I will ask Lisa to get it printed, laminated and posted in our hallways plus copies for your rooms as it is not identical to our current Hybrid schedule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If anything on here feels &#8220;out of sorts&#8221; or causes you some concern, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE to reach out to me &#8211; I want to know \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1kjb8sthFliR1CZSu6uVJtXu_CyLC3Nn9zO25M_mHRg8\/edit#gid=2056803538\" target=\"_blank\">Student schedule for posting in hallways and classrooms<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1kjb8sthFliR1CZSu6uVJtXu_CyLC3Nn9zO25M_mHRg8\/edit#gid=1342606420\" target=\"_blank\">Staff schedule with mtg slots and duties<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LUNCH ROOMS, ACTIVITIES, DUTIES<\/strong> <strong>and EXTRA PAY?!?!:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I would LOVE to offer well supervised eating zones (inside and outside) AND even more so, to offer some <strong>socially connecting and FUN activities<\/strong> for kids at lunch&#8230; again, outside but also in classrooms. It sounds like I MIGHT BE ABLE TO TIMESHEET teachers who are willing to give up your &#8220;duty free lunch&#8221;) on certain days to help supervise OR to open your classrooms to an activity! I have a few ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"color:#0172a3\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Music hang out<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\"><strong> <\/strong><\/span>&#8211; we have drums and ukes and can add more instruments. The instruments can live in some bins in or near your classroom. Kids can come in and drum\/jam<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"color:#0073b5\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Board games hang out<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color:#016cbf\" class=\"has-inline-color\"> <\/span>&#8211; we have board games!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"color:#0180b7\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Video games hang out<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; I have been thinking about buying some video game equipment for the school so kids can play &#8220;together&#8221;. Two Occulus sets and\/or an X-Box that live in your room and kids can come in and play at lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"color:#0277aa\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Other Ideas you come up with?!<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; Leadership? Art? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color:#a30003\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>I have NOT built a duty schedule yet. If you are interested in doing some lunch supervision in one of our eating zones, OR in opening your classroom to an activity, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1kjb8sthFliR1CZSu6uVJtXu_CyLC3Nn9zO25M_mHRg8\/edit#gid=245665189\" target=\"_blank\">please let me know here!<\/a><\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>** open campus?!?! &#8211;<\/em><\/strong> at the moment I am thinking I will NOT adjust our Open Campus policy to include 10th graders&#8230; <span style=\"color:#a30003\" class=\"has-inline-color\">but if you think we should, I am certainly open to the idea and would definitely like to hear your pitch!!<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ALL IN COVID RELATED DETAILS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CLASSROOMS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>3 ft of open space between shoulders of students when seated&nbsp;<em>(to the maximum extent possible)<\/em><ul><li>I suggest&nbsp;<strong>at least<\/strong>&nbsp;4&#8242; from center of chair to center of chair<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>6 ft of space between teacher and nearest student&nbsp;<em>(to the maximum extent possible)<\/em><\/li><li>Recommended that students face the same direction in class&nbsp;<em>(when possible)<\/em>&nbsp;but not required at all times<\/li><li>Do not need to sanitize hands or objects after every touch of a shared object, but can encourage this<\/li><li>Do need to sanitize hands AT LEAST at beginning of every class&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LUNCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Eat outdoors whenever possible<\/li><li>6 ft between kids REQUIRED WHENEVER masks are off\u00a0<strong><em>(inside or outside)<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Supervise for physical distancing especially while masks are off<\/li><li>20 minutes of mask off eating maximum; after that,\u00a0<strong><em>masks back on<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Where students can be at lunch:<ul><li>inside eating zones: front commons (16-20), cafeteria (40-50), total capacity =\u00a0 60 &#8211; 75\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>outside eating zones: out front (\u00a0 ) &amp; courtyard out back (\u00a0 ); capacity =\u00a0 \u00a0<\/li><li>classrooms\u00a0if we have teachers interesting in allowing students in to eat?<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>There are no firm occupancy limits in common areas<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HALLWAYS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>while moving &#8211; 3 ft separation&nbsp;<em>(to the maximum extent possible)<\/em><\/li><li>when stationary &#8211; 6 ft separation&nbsp;<em>(to the maximum extent possible)<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>THE IMPORTANCE OF SEATING CHARTS WHEN WITHIN 6 FEET<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The guideline for &#8220;close contact&#8221; is STILL 6ft which means that if (when) we have a student who tests positive for COVID our school nurse will be contact tracing those students who were less than 6 feet BASED ON SEATING CHARTS. So, seating charts when less than 6 feet are important! They don&#8217;t have to remain fixed forever, but if we will need to be able to provide our nurse with a list of the students who were within 6 feet for extended periods of time.<\/li><li>My hunch is that we will learn more about how this does or doesn&#8217;t operate in the coming weeks, because my hunch is that if enforced, this contact tracing may cause issues all over our big schools?! <em><strong>Meantime&#8230; seating charts please!<\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SMARTER BALANCED (READING AND MATH) IS BACK! &#8230;.<em>OK THEN!<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>SBAC is happening which means ELA and Mathematics for juniors<\/li><li>Opt-out procedures are the same as other years\u2014it applies only to ELA and Math. <\/li><li>The test window is April 13 \u2013 June 11<\/li><li><strong>The tests have been significantly shortened. <\/strong>The CAT section of the test has been reduced and PT (Performance Task) section of both ELA and Math has been removed<\/li><li>Estimated completion time is now 75 minutes&#8230; so if we give kids TWO periods to work on it and &#8220;go slow&#8221; we should be fine!<\/li><li>I will consult with 11th grade teachers and find some dates that work best for you all!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>PERSONAL DAYS IN 3rd TRIMESTER<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes folks want to use up their personal days in the Spring! Please know that I always strive to say YES to personal day requests, and it HELPS me say yes if you do the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>request early<\/em><\/strong> so we can plan accordingly and put it on the Staff Internal Cal so others know<\/li><li>follow all of Jennifer&#8217;s steps (see last week&#8217;s staff blog!)<\/li><li>recognize that we are not supposed to have more than 10% of certified staff out on a given day, so that is a max of actually just 1 teacher<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of that &#8211; please know that the following personal days are on the calendar in the next two weeks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Friday April 9th &#8211; Roger (personal day) &amp; Yen Ling (school business &#8211; WFR training)<\/li><li>Wed\/Thurs April 14\/15 &#8211; Jennifer (personal days)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SPRING CONFERENCES<\/strong> COMING SOON&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday April 16th is designated as a No School Comp Day designed to provide comp time for 4 hours worth of additional out of contract time spent in conferences last Fall and 4 hours of added conference time this Spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will be following up more with our plan shortly &#8211; stay tuned!
