{"id":488,"date":"2021-08-19T15:54:31","date_gmt":"2021-08-19T22:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/skip.offenhauser\/?p=488"},"modified":"2021-08-19T17:04:18","modified_gmt":"2021-08-20T00:04:18","slug":"august-19-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/skip.offenhauser\/2021\/08\/19\/august-19-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"August 19, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The blog is out on Thursday!&nbsp; We\u2019ll strive to make Thursday happen regularly but as you know things happen so don\u2019t be surprised if it comes out on a Friday or some random Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Department News\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Office of Safety<\/strong>&#8211;Safety Resources &#8211; just an FYI that the slides from Tuesday\u2019s safety presentations are in a Safety Resources folder on our <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/u\/0\/folders\/0AOfbgaV8uKE_Uk9PVA\">admin shared <\/a>drive.&nbsp; Don\u2019t forget that in that drive you can also find the meeting calendars, information about days 189-190, RSSL guidelines and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Instructional Tech <\/strong>&#8211; the instructional tech coaches are putting the finishing touches on a one-stop document for staff that introduces them to our systems and resources. This should be especially helpful for new staff.&nbsp; I will have them send it out to schools as soon as it\u2019s ready.&nbsp; Also, the online method for buying iPad insurance is already up on the InTouch system.&nbsp; The flyer for insurance is getting translated right now.&nbsp; That will be sent out as soon as that is done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From TLC <\/strong>&#8211; we are super excited about the Innovative Teaching Conference next Wednesday and Thursday (8\/25-26) at PCMS @ 8:30. Sign up is now closed.&nbsp; We are at 200 people each day.&nbsp; If you did not sign up to attend, please come only to the keynote and invitation only sessions for your level.&nbsp; If you have staff who have been asked to attend sessions (Special Education and BRYT focused work) and have not signed up, please have them attend those sessions. If you or your staff is attending an invitation only session without a signup, we <strong>did not<\/strong> order you a lunch.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From HR<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1K5rTyz091n33S72807eQJ61CUVXTAPw19Ybkf_9rN2E\/edit\">Here is the letter<\/a>&nbsp; and <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1uz8taiQmJmcZK2_jP4pnwsNHKkn29oNR\/view?usp=sharing\">agenda<\/a> for the Welcome to Bend-La Pine Schools day (8\/30) that went out to all new 21-22 staff along with staff that was hired last year (and rehired this year).&nbsp; It would be great to have one administrator from each school attend whether you have a new staff member or not.&nbsp; Also, we would ask that you work with Sean and Kinsey to ensure the itinerant staff feel included at the school level.&nbsp; With the high number of \u201cnew hires\u201d, we are asking that you keep introduction information to a minimum.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The district will be providing the \u201cswag\u201d this year, so no need to bring anything from your school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We look forward to seeing you on Monday, August 30<sup>th<\/sup> at Summit High School. Also, we ask that you arrive early so you have time to welcome your staff as they arrive&nbsp; and interact with them before the festivities begin.&nbsp; The doors will open for registration and breakfast around 7:00.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please let Stephanie Bent know if you have any questions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FAN News from Dana &#8211; <\/strong>FAN Staffing for the 21-22 school year:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Several factors have led to a reevaluation of FAN staffing for the upcoming school year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>As you know, FAN is staffed based on school demographics.\u00a0 These factors include school size, free\/reduced lunch percentage, language diversity, and homeless population.\u00a0 I have worked with Austin James to obtain district wide data.\u00a0 Additionally, the changing secondary school boundaries, Dual Immersion program changes, and the opening of Caldera HS require us to make changes in staffing to best meet the needs of students and families.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>Changing demographics at schools and DI placement make it necessary to consider where our Spanish speaking FAN Advocates are assigned to best meet the needs of FAN clients.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1igX3TutPv7kdDXVf_hBgaiEQFbGkXDxu\/view?usp=sharing\"><strong>Here<\/strong><\/a> you will find the school assignments.\u00a0 I will call each Advocate personally on Monday to relate this information to her.\u00a0 Advocates start their school year on Monday, August 30.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Updates, Reminders, Info and Rants&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Teacher Work Hours &#8211; <\/strong>Tammy and I did some informal polling of several schools and determined that a 7:15-3:15 teacher report time would work best for a common elementary day.&nbsp; This would allow for a larger chunk of time in the afternoon for meetings and a wee bit more time to arrive in the morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Contacting online students from last year <\/strong>&#8211; At the end of last year all students who opted out of brick and mortar were pointed back to your school.&nbsp; They may not know this and think they are still enrolled with BLPO.
