Remember, this is a list to guide your work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Updates, Reminders, Department Info and Rants\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Julie Walker- re: Foundational Skills Review and Adoption Committee Update<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>3\/16-reviewed 11 programs and narrowed to 4<\/li><li>4\/6- publishers will present information for 4 programs to committee<\/li><li>4\/6-4\/28- staff members on committee will field test instructional materials in classrooms and provide feedback&nbsp;<\/li><li>4\/13-4\/26-Opportunities for staff and community feedback (I will send flyers you can share in your newsletters early next week) If you have an opportunity for your school representative to share information with staff that would be super helpful in getting communication out.&nbsp; If not, we will have digital opportunities for staff members to share feedback.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>5\/10-Presentation to board with final decision<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/design\/DAE6XB1HizE\/TggCYJg97lJJSj_ZUhPvNg\/view?utm_content=DAE6XB1HizE&amp;utm_campaign=designshare&amp;utm_medium=link&amp;utm_source=publishsharelink\">Professional learning dates for summer 2022<\/a> .&nbsp; K-5 teachers will be required to attend at least 1 day of Foundational Skills training and this will count as Day 189 (district directed).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1wiV2wztRYBzOmwfSZkgQX_1hBRGLGQpW\/edit?usp=sharing&amp;ouid=101795580140760974491&amp;rtpof=true&amp;sd=true\"><strong>Instructional Coach Position Available<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; We will be hiring a 1.0 instructional coach.&nbsp; Please share this opportunity with your staff.&nbsp; They can apply on the BLS website.&nbsp; The position will close on April 10th.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Krista Baker &#8211;<\/strong> We will be offering a CPI Refresher course on April 14<sup>th<\/sup> from 8:30 to 2:30.&nbsp; Please go into Performance Matters and sign up for this class if you need it.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kindergarten communication help needed &#8211; <\/strong>Alandra is looking for a couple classified staff to assist with getting posters and flyers out in our community.&nbsp; If you have anyone who might be interested in driving around Bend to hang posters and distribute flyers please ask them to contact Alandra.&nbsp; They will be paid for their time and mileage.&nbsp; She needs a couple for the Bend area and one for the South County area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Student Teachers &#8211; <\/strong>FYI &#8211; if you have a university reaching out to you or to teachers directly for student teacher placement please refer them to Ryan Kelling in HR.&nbsp; He is going to be the point of contact for our universities on this topic.&nbsp; We are being very purposeful in our placements, as great teachers are grown by working with great teachers. .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bend Science Station updated costs &#8211; <\/strong>I had some additional conversations with the Bend Science Station about the upcoming 5th grade program they\u2019d like to bring to your school.\u00a0 Having a standard cost did not quite make sense because what they build with costs more for larger schools and less for smaller schools.\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1TqN7aW2pElUFfDJkzaoUSd6tnWJ4x0ay\/edit?rtpof=true#gid=188814457\">Here is the breakdown of costs for each school<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0 Larger schools &#8211; higher cost, smaller schools &#8211; lower cost.\u00a0 As I said in a previous communication, I\u2019ve seen your discretionary budget balances and they can more than cover this cost.\u00a0 If you have questions or concerns just reach out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Vision Screening approved &#8211; <\/strong>The Lions Club Vision Screening is set to take place starting tomorrow in your schools. We worked with Jon Awbrey with the Lions Club to clear all of his staff through background checks in the fall, and all of his staff are current on their vaccinations. Scott B. is&nbsp; working on getting them set up through the new updates in BIB so that they show up in Raptor. Please know that his team is good to go to for background checks and vaccinations, regardless if they show up or not in the next day or two in BIB\/Raptor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Digital Citizenship from Instructional Tech &#8211; <\/strong>March is coming to an end, but digital citizenship carries on all year long. Here&#8217;s what we&#8217;ve been working on\u2026&nbsp; Looking for purposeful options for iPad choice time? <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/instructionaltechnology\/2022\/03\/30\/prevent-passive-ipad-time\/\">Prevent Passive iPad Time<\/a> has ideas to get you started. This aligns with one of BLSD strategies (11.b) in the Sustainability Plan. (Don\u2019t worry\u2013we haven\u2019t read it yet either!) Want to be better prepared for next time?&nbsp; Make sure you mark your calendars for Monday, May 9 and be ready with chapters 7-10.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>April 11th BRYT debrief meeting:&nbsp; <\/strong>Our admin meeting and BRYT debrief scheduled for April 11th, has now been replaced&nbsp; by the Central Oregon Job Fair.&nbsp; We apologize as we were not given job fair dates prior to scheduling the day.&nbsp; Never fear though, we have something that might be even better! Because Paul and Courtney will be out that week from back east, to support us and you are working hard to complete the visits by then, we wanted to reschedule as soon as we could. So, we will now be having the Admin debrief and meeting&nbsp; on Wednesday, April 13, from noon-2:00, during&nbsp; teacher prep time for conferences.&nbsp; That time will include a 12:00-12:30 lunch (our treat!) and time for you to hang out and chat with each other, with the debrief work happening from 12:30-2:00. We will be meeting at Trinity Church (behind the Ed Center).&nbsp; So, mark your calendars, 4\/13, 12:00-2:00, Trinity Church, Elementary Admin Meeting and lunch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Ryan in HR<\/strong> &#8211; Here is the link to the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1Exn26yklsRhACfcfas0vhSYr7s4P-gDsSZuvrVqOV2I\/edit?usp=sharing\">Central Oregon Job Fair sign-up sheet<\/a> for administrators. The job fair will be April 11 from 12:00 \u2013 6:00 pm, with lunch provided for administrators.&nbsp; We will be meeting with candidates from 1:00 \u2013 6:00 and are continuing the past practice of asking all administrators to be present to interview candidates for a two-and-a-half hour shift.&nbsp; Buildings with two or more administrators need to have at least one admin present at all times during the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Visitor Update &#8211;  <\/strong>Starting Monday, April 4th, you may have a visitor come to school that fits the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/application\/files\/1514\/5287\/6123\/IFCC-AR_Guest_Speakers.pdf\">\u201cGuest Speaker and Outside Presenter\u201d Administrative Regulation<\/a> definition. As you can see by reading the AR, most of the requests you have shared with us fit the definition.&nbsp; They must sign into Raptor and wear the nametag.&nbsp; Guests and Visitors must be supervised by school staff at all times and may not work alone with students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Volunteers <\/strong>&#8211; It was discussed today at the covid meeting, that if you have a parent signed up to volunteer, they must abide by our volunteer rules, meaning that they need to go through the volunteer application system, upload vaccination card\/exception paperwork and be approved.&nbsp; They also need to sign in and wear the Raptor sticker when they are there to volunteer.&nbsp; There have been some parent volunteers that work with the ESD and BLPS, that have come in using their work credentials\/name badges and argued about needing to sign in the system.&nbsp; All volunteers need to follow the same protocols.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kindergarten Registration\u00a0 &#8211; <\/strong>During the week of April 11th look for district communication on Kindergarten registration for next school year (it\u2019s been open a while, this is more of an awareness). \u00a0 This will be when we kick off our campaign.\u00a0 We would like schools to host an informational event sometime between April 25th and 29th.\u00a0 This event can be virtual or in person &#8211; your choice.\u00a0 If it is in-person you will have to complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/xegq8aMCBBBtMo2t7\">Covid Mitigation form<\/a>.\u00a0 Alandra <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1zxvyNGXxar-4EBi3_tKkAQmSUnzBvmEasVpIrEmobmk\/edit#gid=0\">has a form for schools to complete<\/a><\/strong> re: this event.\u00a0 Please try to complete <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1zxvyNGXxar-4EBi3_tKkAQmSUnzBvmEasVpIrEmobmk\/edit#gid=0\">this form<\/a><\/strong> by April 7th.\u00a0 If you choose to hold a bigger kindergarten event later in the year that is fine, but, please have at least a quick WebEx this week to introduce yourself and to touch base with the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Elementary Covid Mitigation Form <\/strong>&#8211; Be sure to bookmark <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/xegq8aMCBBBtMo2t7\"><strong>this link<\/strong> <\/a>to the covid mitigation form, as you will need to fill this form out for each after school, school sponsored event.
