The first two days were fabulous!\u00a0 Tammy and I saw a lot of Happy and Proud kids, parents, and staff members.\u00a0 All your hard work over the last few weeks was completely obvious and totally paid off.\u00a0 You need to make sure you give yourself a pat on the back and treat yourself this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Updates, Reminders, Department Info and Rants\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant Principals and Student Services:<\/strong>  After hearing from several of you and talking to Eric Powell, we have decided to remove the assistant principal meetings from your plates.  The role of an AP at the elementary level is quite different from the secondary one, and Eric will be gearing the work to the secondary level.  Not to mention, the timing was not good.  At this time, we do not have a replacement, but when we do, it will be specific to elementary and geared around times that work best for you all.  A quick thing to note is that the district safety meetings will still be on the same days as the AP trainings, but from 8:30-9:30, and your building safety admin will need to attend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fanny Pack First Aid Kits<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have received numerous requests for fanny pack first aid kits. Schools were provided with a supply when they first came out. We are currently out of filled fanny pack first aid kits. We have new fanny packs on order. We will send out communication to office managers when they are back in stock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

COVID-19 Positive Reporting<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please remember to complete the Bend-La Pine Schools COVID-19 Reporting Form<\/a> <\/strong>when staff report that they have COVID-19. It is preferred that staff report to their office manager, so the school is aware of the absence. Our COVID-19 support team does not report absences to schools. **No need to text Tami, Michelle, or the school nurse. We will be notified when a new form has been submitted.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

**Please note that there is not a COVID-19 support team member on call for COVID-19 cases reported after 5pm on weekdays or on the weekends\/holidays. A COVID-19 support team member will follow up with positive cases on the next school day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Red Zone – Things to do or share<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Stephen Duval<\/strong> – Administrators, please ensure you have communicated our administrator\/ICCL training dates to your ICCL members.  These trainings will occur from 4-6 on the following dates.     10\/4, 12\/6, 2\/7, and 4\/4.  We are working on locations and will communicate those out at a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Field trip policy <\/strong>– Now that field trips are back we thought it would be a good idea for everyone to review our AR on field trips.\u00a0 Please take a few minutes to read Administrative Regulation\u00a0 IICA-AR<\/strong><\/a> and re-familiarize yourself on the intentions of field trips, approval, and funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key take aways:  Field trips and other special activities involving travel may be authorized by the principal, superintendent or designee when such trips or activities contribute to the achievement of desirable educational outcomes in alignment with district educational, social, and cultural goals. A Field Trip \/ Activity Request Form must be completed and approved prior to the trip date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PE (and music) PLCs:\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Here is the Master Calendar of PE PLCs<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Please make a note that these days are protected\u00a0 for PE and Music PLCs and you should not plan anything in your building that you need them to attend.\u00a0 If you have a part time music\/PE teacher who\u2019s hours are not within the SIW day, they still should attend that amount of SIW time (example, a half time teacher should attend half of the SIWs).\u00a0 Here is the tricky part:\u00a0 If their hours do not extend into the SIW day, you have a couple of options to make it right contractually for them to attend.\u00a0 One, working with the teacher, you can adjust their hours during the week they need to attend a SIW so they can attend within their contractual time or two, you can timesheet them for 90 minutes to attend.\u00a0 Both of those ways make it possible for them to attend and be fairly compensated. Please communicate this with your PE and music teachers, as attending and participating in their PLCs is important and an expectation for all.\u00a0 Thanks for showing your support for this important work. From Scott Bojanowski:\u00a0 <\/strong>Contrary to what some schools have been told, this is the final answer on leaving a door open at recess for students to come in and use the restroom.\u00a0 You may have only ONE<\/span><\/strong> door of your choice within your fenced perimeter, unlocked during recess for students to come inside to access the restroom, office, etc.\u00a0 That door should be monitored by an adult nearby (don\u2019t need to stand at the door like at gates in the mornings, but should not be across the playground either).\u00a0 The door should be locked back up immediately<\/span> after recess.\u00a0 Thanks for your cooperation with this.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team Norms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last spring I had said I would share these<\/strong><\/a> resources with you in the fall, for developing Team Norms with your staff or within PLCs.\u00a0 Feel free to use whatever’s helpful, and please let me know if you’re looking for something more specific!\u00a0 Tip: consider having explicit norms for communicating together productively (where to take specific questions or concerns, use\/mis-use of email, etc).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Scott McDonald re: New Staff Portal and MFA (multi factor authentication)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most common feedback from the launch of the new portal has centered around how often staff are asked to complete Multifactor Authentication (MFA).\u00a0 Please consider sharing our new MFA Tips link<\/strong><\/a> with your staff.\u00a0 Making the suggested changes will considerably reduce the number of times a user is asked to complete MFA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another from Scott re: MS Bookings – Appointment Calendar – <\/strong>We have had several requests from users to provide a tool for appointment scheduling.\u00a0 In response, we have enabled \u201cBookings<\/strong>\u201d. <\/a>\u00a0This solution is a great starting point because it automatically links to your Outlook calendar.\u00a0 A few of us in IT have been using it this summer and are happy with the results.\u00a0 You can learn more about Microsoft Bookings by going to this site<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Otherwise, it is pretty simple to set up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. In a web browser search for Microsoft 365. Sign in with your district log in credentials.  <\/li>
  2. Find the \u201cwaffle\u201d icon in the top right corner and choose \u201cBookings\u201d.<\/li>
  3. Name and create your appointment calendar.<\/li>
  4. Click \u201cBookings Page\u201d to get a link to share with your audience.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    You can communicate your Bookings calendar by adding the link to your outlook email signature or however you see fit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
