We encourage you to reach out to your student\u2019s teachers anytime you have questions, need updates, or want to share information. For a quick and easy way to contact your student\u2019s teachers, follow these steps in ParentVUE:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Log in to ParentVUE.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the&nbsp;<strong>&#8220;Class Schedule&#8221;<\/strong>&nbsp;button within your student\u2019s account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look to the right side of the screen, where you\u2019ll see your student\u2019s teachers listed in blue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on a teacher\u2019s name, and an email form will open, allowing you to initiate a direct message to that teacher.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This tool makes it easy to stay connected, and our teachers are here to support you. Thank you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Notification sent to families by December 6:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Dave:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><u style=\"font-weight: bold\">OSAS Testing Annual Notices and Opt-Out Forms<\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bend-La Pine website has been updated with the 2024-25 fillable PDF annual notice and opt-out forms that we are required to share with families. There are separate notices and opt-out forms for ELA\/Math testing (grades 3-8 &amp; 11) and the SEED survey (grades 3-11). Please share these resources through your commonly used channels (e.g., School newsletters, parent emails) and have copies available for parents to pick up in the office by the applicable dates listed below.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/district\/academics\/academics-overview\/oregon-department-education-resources\">https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/district\/academics\/academics-overview\/oregon-department-education-resources<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>ODE English Language Arts and Math State Testing<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consistent with the requirements of ORS 329.479, ODE has developed an annual notice (available through ODE\u2019s&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oregon.gov\/ode\/educator-resources\/assessment\/Pages\/Assessment-Administration.aspx#Forms\">Test Administration<\/a>&nbsp;webpage) that describes these assessments, identifies the timeframe when the assessment will most likely be administered, and identifies an adult student\u2019s or parent\u2019s right to excuse the student from testing.&nbsp;<strong>Districts and public charter schools must provide parents with the ODE-developed annual notice at the beginning of each school year.&nbsp;<\/strong>In addition, districts and public charter schools must provide parents with separate notice at least 30 days prior to administering the statewide summative assessments in Math and ELA using the ODE-provided 30-day notice and opt-out form (also available through ODE\u2019s&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oregon.gov\/ode\/educator-resources\/assessment\/Pages\/Assessment-Administration.aspx#Forms\">Test Administration<\/a>&nbsp;webpage), or a district-created form that exactly reproduces the language of the ODE-provided form. School districts and public charter schools must use the language of the 30-day notice and opt-out form provided by ODE to communicate with all parents about state testing requirements and their right to opt out for high school students by&nbsp;<strong>January 5, 2025,&nbsp;<\/strong>and for students in Grades 3-8 by&nbsp;<strong>March 2, 2025<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Notification sent to families at least 5 days prior to administering the SEED survey:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Dave:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>ODE SEED Survey<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oregon law (House Bill 2656) requires each school district to make the SEED Survey available to students in grades 3-11. Parents or guardians may decline, either verbally or in writing, to have their student participate in the SEED Survey. Schools will provide parents with notice of administration and the process for declining participation at least 5 days prior to administering the SEED Survey. Students may also decline, at any time, either verbally or in writing to participate. Students may also decline to answer individual questions on the SEED survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-blush-bordeaux-gradient-background has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Departments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Scott in IT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Synergy Mail Issue and Resolution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest update to our student information system included a change in Synergy Mail, which removed the ability for recipients (families) to reply directly to the sender (teacher). This change was intentional by the vendor but was not communicated to any IT teams or any of their 6,500 school customers nationwide. As a result, we were delayed in communicating the issue and providing a solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of today, November 14th, our BLS IT team has implemented an in-house fix that restores the direct reply functionality for recipients of messages sent via Synergy Mail. We understand that this issue may have disrupted important communication between teachers and families. Please let me know if there is anything my team or I can do to support you in reestablishing communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>From Kinsey &#8211; Policy, Advocacy, &amp; Office of DEI:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bias Incidents and Hate Speech<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When does a student&#8217;s comment to a peer or text on a t-shirt invoke our policies around sexual harassment, bias, bullying or intimidation, and when is it something permissible or protected?&nbsp; What if a student is using a hand gesture that is known to be a communication of hate or oppression?&nbsp; How do you balance intent vs impact, political speech, and a culture of dignity and belonging focused on learning?&nbsp; If you have a tricky situation, need some policy guidance, or just want a thought partner, please reach out!&nbsp; If you&#8217;d be interested in a collaborative conversation with other building administrators on how to navigate these incidents right now, please email me so I can gauge interest and need.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a reminder, please respond promptly to any complaints or bias incidents reported, including circling back with the reporter at the conclusion of your response.&nbsp; This is a powerful way to show your commitment to the wellbeing and dignity of each member of your school community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Latino Family Night<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please drop by our 7<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;annual district-wide Latino Family Night if you are able (invitation&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/15weUIQZLUAqj2kJQBBuCva9ooRLAM0F5\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>&#8211;feel free to share).&nbsp; The Woodburn High School mariachi band will perform (pictured&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1rPlzYnu6uEq4_Hy6_mXCZ6NvGPaiBEzY\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>), and there will be dinner, partners, games, and fun!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Jen:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s that time of year again.&nbsp; November 21<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;is College and Career Day in Bend-La Pine Schools.&nbsp; As with last year, we are looking to draw attention to the multitude of pathways available to students after they graduate high school.&nbsp; This is a K-12 day!&nbsp; We want all students to be dreaming about what options they have after they leave our schools.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are a few things you could do at your site to make the day a success.&nbsp; It would be great if classrooms or advisories could look to do something for just 10-15 minutes this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dress as a professional<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encourage students and staff to dress up as someone from a career they are interested in.&nbsp; Remember there are a lot of great careers out there!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wear college colors<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Encourage students to wear the colors of a favorite college.&nbsp; Remember, college can mean community college, trade school, 4-year university, etc.&nbsp; Be careful with wording here as college brand clothing can be expensive and prevent students from feeling like they can participate.&nbsp; Colors are more inclusionary.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consider incorporating videos or lessons bringing awareness to careers and colleges.&nbsp;<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Our 6-12 sites could lean into some of the activities in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.schoolinks.com\/login\/k12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SchooLinks<\/a>.&nbsp; All secondary students have required activities to complete through BLS School Counseling curriculum and to complete their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1JFr6l58mHPq33-IlSpIUHEQ8EyQ6NCf9\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Educational Plan and Profile<\/a>, so this would be a perfect opportunity to complete one of these required activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;Consider onboarding all your students if you haven&#8217;t already done so.&nbsp; Students are required to take a &#8220;Find your Path&#8221; assessment when first logging in that will jumpstart the college and career exploration process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wayfinder also has some great resources, especially their integration with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.withwayfinder.com\/library?per_page=16&amp;search=&amp;demo_content_type=&amp;favorited=&amp;zero_prep=&amp;tier=&amp;teacher_tier_2=&amp;grade=&amp;duration=&amp;activity=roadtrip+nation+video&amp;accessibility_type=&amp;academic_subject=&amp;groups=&amp;support_id=&amp;type=TeacherActivityResource\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roadtrip Nation<\/a>&nbsp;and their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.withwayfinder.com\/collections?topic=4e2fca97-8f6a-4f8b-89e1-f2d31531e35c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Future Ready Collection K-12<\/a>. For middle school, these have been added for the week of November 18th as potential advisory lessons in our<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1XT1DpNoBy2laNiMHFD5asUr13-RMck_jmmZYFJh0Rx8\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;scope and sequence.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Here is a great website from the State of Oregon called&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.careerjourneys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Career Journeys<\/a>.&nbsp; There are amazing short videos, lesson plans and other activities any teacher could do.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also available is the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cclco.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Career Connected Learning Central Oregon website<\/a>&nbsp;which allows exploration of career paths close to home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consider inviting parents from the community in to talk about their careers.&nbsp;<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This could be done in a variety of ways from assemblies, to advisory, to lunch.&nbsp; You could also ask parents to submit a short video of them talking about their jobs and stitch them together for students.&nbsp; Remember our visitor and volunteer requirements if you decide to invite parents in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We hope you&#8217;ll join in the celebration.&nbsp; Please send pictures of your participation to Becca Burda.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-amber-to-luminous-vivid-orange-gradient-background has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Calendar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"block-bf974226-fb6e-4722-94d9-bdf97e92cda5\">November 19: HS Assistant Principals work session &#8211; 8:00-10:00 @ BTA<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">November 21:  College and Career Day!
