{"id":1169,"date":"2021-11-04T15:32:36","date_gmt":"2021-11-04T15:32:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/the-special-edge\/?p=1169"},"modified":"2021-11-16T22:55:13","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T22:55:13","slug":"the-special-edge-11-9-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/the-special-edge\/2021\/11\/04\/the-special-edge-11-9-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"The Special Edge 11\/16\/2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080\">From Shannon Watters<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #d4600d\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif\">Your friendly reminder of our annual <span class=\"x_markyewbmwqm8\">count<\/span> date.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markpfqdzl17y x_x_x_x_x_cc_cursor\">December<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_mark3yn6dx3oh x_x_x_x_x_cc_cursor\"><span class=\"x_markc6o0rev4x\">Child<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markg24bdns9h x_x_x_x_x_cc_cursor\"><span class=\"x_markyewbmwqm8\">Count<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;less than a month away.&nbsp;&nbsp;Each year, we need to&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markg24bdns9h\"><span class=\"x_markyewbmwqm8\">count<\/span><\/span> as many of our students as we can, especially those that are in the Initial process.&nbsp; &nbsp;You will be receiving an IEP Due Date report and an Evaluation Due Date Report Friday as well as the following four Mondays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">Information regarding&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markpfqdzl17y\">December<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_mark3yn6dx3oh\"><span class=\"x_markc6o0rev4x\">Child<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markg24bdns9h\"><span class=\"x_markyewbmwqm8\">Count<\/span><\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">For us to report accurate data to ODE,&nbsp; case managers need to continue doing what you have always done:\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">An IEP with&nbsp;a due date which falls&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><b>ON<\/b><\/span>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><b>BEFORE<\/b><\/span>&nbsp;Dec. 1&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><b>MUST&nbsp;<\/b><\/span>be reviewed and finalized&nbsp;<u>on\/before<\/u>&nbsp;Dec. 1 to be included in our&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_mark3yn6dx3oh\"><span class=\"x_markc6o0rev4x\">Child<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markg24bdns9h\"><span class=\"x_markyewbmwqm8\">Count<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul type=\"square\">\n<li class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">Example: If the IEP due date is 12\/1\/20 and you hold the meeting 12\/1\/20:&nbsp;<b><u>This IEP must be completed and finalized the same day in order for the student to be&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markg24bdns9h\"><span class=\"x_markyewbmwqm8\">count<\/span><\/span>ed.<\/u><\/b><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">Example: If you hold an IEP meeting 12\/1\/20, but the current IEP due date is 12\/3\/20, then you follow practice and finalize within 10 school days.&nbsp; This student still has a current IEP and is eligible on Dec.&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markt0q14r7ja\">1<\/span><sup><span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markt0q14r7ja\">st<\/span><\/sup>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">What you should notice from a paperwork perspective, is that there is&nbsp;<u><i>no difference between census season and any other<\/i><\/u>!&nbsp; It should feel like business as usual.&nbsp; Hopefully, this will alleviate the stress that so many of you feel this time of year as we head into late fall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">We only have two days after Thanksgiving break before the&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_mark3yn6dx3oh\"><span class=\"x_markc6o0rev4x\">Child<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markg24bdns9h\"><span class=\"x_markyewbmwqm8\">Count<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;Deadline.&nbsp;&nbsp;Please submit all paperwork for meetings to RCC&nbsp;<b>as soon as possible<\/b>&nbsp;for those meetings held late in November so that RCC will have time to review and be ready before Dec.&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markt0q14r7ja x_x_x_x_x_cc_cursor\">1<\/span><sup><span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markt0q14r7ja\">st<\/span><\/sup>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">S<u><b>can in paperwork to RCC<\/b><\/u>&nbsp;for a faster return.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li>Please work with your records clerks for a review prior to finalization, but keep in mind that if they are not able to provide a review, you are<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">&nbsp;<b><u>still responsible for FINALIZING your IEP and all associated documents<\/u><\/b><b><u>.<\/u><\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">Our current number is&nbsp;over&nbsp;<b>228 IEPs due by 12\/1<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">Also, as a reminder there are widgets that track the&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markg24bdns9h\"><span class=\"x_markyewbmwqm8\">count<\/span><\/span>down to Dec.&nbsp;<span class=\"x_x_x_x_x_markt0q14r7ja\">1st<\/span>&nbsp;for your students who will be due by then.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_x_x_x_MsoNormal\">On the home page when you open Synergy, click on the plus&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"93625*0bf871d1-21f2-4936-9c7e-f32a33b1d062\" data-outlook-trace=\"F:6|T:6\">.&nbsp; Go to Special Education, choose IEPs Due by 12\/1\/21.&nbsp; The widget will show up on your home screen.&nbsp; Unfortunately, this will not refresh each time you log into Synergy.&nbsp; To refresh, hover over the widget and click on the cog wheel that shows.&nbsp;
