{"id":506,"date":"2020-10-14T22:20:39","date_gmt":"2020-10-14T22:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/the-special-edge\/?p=506"},"modified":"2020-10-16T20:52:14","modified_gmt":"2020-10-16T20:52:14","slug":"special-edge-10-16-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/the-special-edge\/2020\/10\/14\/special-edge-10-16-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Edge 10\/16\/2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From Sean Reinhart<br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Happy Friday!<br \/>This week we made more progress and we were able to see more of our students in person!\u00a0 You all have done an amazing job with preparing for students to be in the buildings.\u00a0 I have heard nothing but great stories from both staff and students.\u00a0 I hope you all enjoy your well deserved weekend.\u00a0 Take care.<\/p>\n<p>Schedules:<br \/>It is that time of year when we collect schedules for all special education staff.\u00a0 Please submit your schedule by Friday, Oct. 23<sup>rd<\/sup> using <strong>this link<\/strong>\u00a0 <a title=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/LTKjpgTL2WMt8psr6\" href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/LTKjpgTL2WMt8psr6\">SPED Staff Schedules 20-21<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A couple of details to note in your schedule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please illustrate your schedule in at least 30 minute blocks<\/li>\n<li>Please indicate your breaks, preps, and lunch<\/li>\n<li>Please complete the schedule in it entirely and fill in each block of time<\/li>\n<li>You can combine the certified and classified schedules onto one team document<\/li>\n<li>If you need a template, please reach out to Josh, Colleen, or myself<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>From Colleen Funderburg<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000\">Some great new changes to scheduling IEP meetings!<br \/><\/span><\/strong>After feedback from parents, students and case managers we have added the case managers WebEx personal room address to the School Messenger email and automated phone call to the parent.\u00a0 <br \/>We have included a quick guide that explains the changes and some other tips and tricks! This means you do not have to create and send a separate WebEx invite to the parent.\u00a0 Hooray! The purpose of this team is to problem solve student and family needs.\u00a0 I.e.: connectivity, troubleshooting tech issues, non-attendance, etc. The case manager should bring the student to this team and problem solve.\n<ol>\n<li>Questions to ask: Have you checked in with the general education teacher?\u00a0 Is the student attending their sessions, accessing any classes?\u00a0 If so, the SPED teacher will need to keep reaching out and documenting.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>If after problem solving the student with the school team and continued attempts to engage ie: case manager has\u00a0texted, called multiple times, emailed and sent the schedule and links to student sped WebEx groups, as well as documented offers for services; \u00a0and student is still non responsive:\n<ol>\n<li>Complete a PWN of non-attendance and a FAPE letter.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>These students <em><u>will not<\/u><\/em> have a dropped enrollment per Ready Schools, Safe Learner guidance.\u00a0 Therefore the student will still show in your portfolio as actively enrolled.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n<p><strong>From Josh Marks<br><\/strong>Pre Employment Transition services are available for students. <a href=\"desiree.berry@bend.k12.or.us\">Desiree Berry<\/a> (Pre Employment Transition Services Coordinator) for Central and Eastern Oregon is available to serve students at schools which do not contain the Youth Transition Program.
