{"id":589,"date":"2020-11-04T23:37:51","date_gmt":"2020-11-04T23:37:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/the-special-edge\/?p=589"},"modified":"2020-11-06T22:52:30","modified_gmt":"2020-11-06T22:52:30","slug":"special-edge-11-6-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/the-special-edge\/2020\/11\/04\/special-edge-11-6-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Edge 11\/6\/2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From Shannon Watters<br>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #993300\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS,sans-serif\">Just your friendly reminder of our annual count date.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\"><span class=\"x_markpfqdzl17y x_cc_cursor cc_cursor\">December<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_mark3yn6dx3oh x_cc_cursor\">Child<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markg24bdns9h x_cc_cursor\">Count<\/span>&nbsp;less than a month away.&nbsp;&nbsp;Each year, we need to&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markg24bdns9h\">count<\/span>&nbsp;as many of our students as we can, especially those that are in the Initial process.&nbsp; &nbsp;You will be receiving an IEP Due Date report and an Evaluation Due Date Report Friday as well as the following four Mondays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">Information regarding&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markpfqdzl17y\">December<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_mark3yn6dx3oh\">Child<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markg24bdns9h\">Count<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">For us to report accurate data to ODE,&nbsp; case managers need to continue doing what you have always done:\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">An IEP with&nbsp;a due date which falls&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><b>ON<\/b><\/span>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><b>BEFORE<\/b><\/span>&nbsp;Dec. 1&nbsp;<b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">MUST<\/span>&nbsp;<\/b>be reviewed and finalized&nbsp;<u>on\/before<\/u>&nbsp;Dec. 1 to be included in our&nbsp;<span class=\"x_mark3yn6dx3oh\">Child<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markg24bdns9h\">Count<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul type=\"square\">\n<li class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">Example: If the IEP due date is 12\/1\/20 and you hold the meeting 12\/1\/20:&nbsp;<b><u>This IEP must be completed and finalized the same day in order for the student to be&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markg24bdns9h\">count<\/span>ed.<\/u><\/b><\/li>\n<li class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">Example: If you hold an IEP meeting 12\/1\/20, but the current IEP due date is 12\/3\/20, then you follow practice and finalize within 10 school days.&nbsp; This student still has a current IEP and is eligible on Dec.&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markt0q14r7ja\">1<\/span><sup><span class=\"x_markt0q14r7ja\">st<\/span><\/sup>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">What you should notice from a paperwork perspective, is that there is no difference between census season and any other!&nbsp; It should feel like business as usual.&nbsp; Hopefully, this will alleviate the stress that so many of you feel this time of year as we head into late fall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">We only have one day after Thanksgiving break before the&nbsp;<span class=\"x_mark3yn6dx3oh\">Child<\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markg24bdns9h\">Count<\/span>&nbsp;Deadline.&nbsp;&nbsp;Please submit all paperwork for meetings to RCC&nbsp;<b>as soon as possible<\/b>&nbsp;for those meetings held late in November so that RCC will have time to review and be ready before Dec.&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markt0q14r7ja x_cc_cursor\">1<\/span><sup><span class=\"x_markt0q14r7ja\">st<\/span><\/sup>.&nbsp;&nbsp;You can&nbsp;<u><b>scan in paperwork to RCC<\/b><\/u>&nbsp;for a faster return.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Please work with your records clerks for a review prior to finalization, but keep in mind that if they are not able to provide a review, you are&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><b><u>still responsible for FINALIZING your IEP and all associated documents<\/u><\/b><b><u>.<\/u><\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">Our current number is&nbsp;<b>268 IEPs due by 12\/1<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">Also, as a reminder there are widgets that track the&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markg24bdns9h\">count<\/span>down to Dec.&nbsp;<span class=\"x_markt0q14r7ja\">1st<\/span>&nbsp;for your students who will be due by then.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_MsoNormal\">On the home page when you open Synergy, click on the plus <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-590\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/the-special-edge\/files\/2020\/11\/Screen-Shot-2020-11-04-at-3.33.04-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"101\" height=\"54\"><br>\nGo to Special Education, choose IEPs Due by 12\/1\/20.&nbsp; The widget will show up on your home screen.&nbsp; Unfortunately, this will not refresh each time you log into Synergy.<br>\nTo refresh, hover over the widget and click on the cog wheel that shows.&nbsp;
