Starting at a new school can be so daunting (especially middle school), and HDMS ensures new students feel connected and supported from the get-go. Thanks to Nole Kennedy, Dean of Students for leading this work!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>New student&#8217;s schedule is emailed to all affect teachers, admin team, and appropriate counselor<\/li><li>On the new student&#8217;s first day, they are assigned a mentor-student who takes them to\/from their classes, sits with them at lunch, etc for the first few days <\/li><li>The Dean keeps a list of new students&#8217; start date and after a couple of weeks of them attending HDMS:<ul><li>Call them individually down to my office for a welcome meeting which includes:<ul><li>Hearing about their background<\/li><li>Asking about their experience so far at HDMS<\/li><li>Sharing expectations and information about HDMS<\/li><li>Asking if there is anything we can do to support their transition<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Calling their families to welcome&nbsp;their student to HDMS&nbsp;<\/li><li>Giving them an HDMS sticker and some candy<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3024\" height=\"4032\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/tier1andmore\/files\/2019\/04\/Image-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-595\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Check out how well High Desert Middle welcomes new students that show up throughout the year.
