QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“My son, is so excited about this elective and is really looking forward to what he is going to learn. And I loved that last night when I was cleaning up dishes from dinner, he taught me all he had learned about washing kitchen things. For example, he shared with me the order in which you should wash things, how you should never put a sharp knife in soapy water, etc. It was just so fun to have a conversation like that together and one he actually initiated!!! So thank you!”                                                              ~ HDMS parent

  • Our professional development course is online, self-paced and provides a certificate of completion for 12 CEU’s/PDU’s. Anyone from your district is welcome to sign up!
  • We have had impressive outcomes with other districts across the state. Ontario, Oregon had over 200 educators enroll in the course, 95% of whom reported they were able to immediately implement something they learned in their classroom and that the program helped their schools better understand and welcome refugee and immigrant students.

REMINDERS

HDMS Safety Day

  • Will take place on 11/28.  All classroom teachers will share safety day info with every class they teach using a slide show provided on staff Google Classroom.  The format and each period’s mini lesson topic can be found in the most recent safety team notes.  Each mini-lesson should take approximately 5 minutes.
  • Please be mindful during class discussions of students that may be anxious or extra sensitive and use your professional judgment to limit students’ what-if scenarios.  If you have a guest teacher, please make plans and provide details about safety day for them.

College Day

  • Food for thought-What messages are we sending students?  Check out this link from Dave Vanloo.  Seems to support the “whole child” and how electives are so important!
