BITS AND BOBS

  • Forecasting: Click here for 7th grade and here for 8th grade forecasting sheets. Wednesday May 1st, current 6th and 7th graders will forecast in advisory.  Forecasting sheets will be in advisory teachers boxes Tuesday afternoon. Students will mark their selections, use their iPad to take a picture of their forecasting sheet (so they can share with home), then advisory teachers will collect all forecasting sheet and turn them into Gina. Students WILL NOT leave advisory with the forecasting sheet!
  • AVID: Please click here to read about what AVID is and what AVID is not!  This will be important information for you to have prior to forecasting with 6th/7th graders.
  • ICCL Openings for the next 2 year cycle: HDMS has 4 open ICCL positions for our next 2 year term.  Please submit an application if you are interested. A job description and application requirements are found on the staff portal by searching ICCL.  Click here and here for documents and job descriptions.  All interested candidates will submit their essay to Candy Gelatt and Carrie Hulbert in the HR office by May 31. Each candidate will also ask a colleague to submit a Confidential Recommendation form directly to Candy and Carrie in the HR office.
  • Tardy Data: Thirty-three students were tardy four or more times from April 19th through April 25th.  There were seventeen repeat offenders who will be assigned consequences.
  • The families for all thirty-three students appearing on the tardy report will be contacted.
  • Staffing for next year:  We have been able to add a section to Social Studies (Wardle), Yay!  We are working to add a Behavior Support EA specialist for next year as well.  Our art position has been posted, has closed and we are looking at an interview date of May 7th.  We have been approved to post our temporary math position.  We are still waiting to see if we will have a high school ELA teacher placed with us, or if we will be able to post this opening…more to come on this in the coming weeks.
  • Spending Cut Off Date:  We are at the point in the year where we need to stop the spending so we can make sure all our accounts are balanced and grant funds are used up.  Kerri sent an email out earlier this week.  The “drop dead” date for spending is April 30th.  Please swing by and check in with Kerri if you want to know your budget balance or have questions regarding grants.
  • Save the Date:  End of the year staff party Friday June 7th 3:30pm.  At Lynne’s house in the Bridges, more details to come…just wanted to make sure everyone cleared their schedule!
  • Mini Observations: Paul and I are working our way into all advisories for this round of mini observations.  It has been fun to see staff instructing students outside of their typical content area and building human connections and relationships with the group in their advisory class.
  • Bullying student behaviors:  We don’t encourage this or condone this, we investigate reported incidents, and we administer consequences when it is found bullying has occurred. Nonetheless, young adolescents don’t always treat others with respect. With this in mind, I wanted to pass along the following article that appeared in the Marshall Memo (775, Feb. 25, 2019): Increasing “Upstander” Behavior to Combat School Bullying. It appeared to have some good resources/talking points that may be helpful to you.
  • Annual Family Handbook/Calendar:  Please help us and nominate a student today using this form: https://forms.gle/1pnin61efE78dYWNA We want to highlight students from all backgrounds and abilities.
