We were planning on beginning mini observations this week, however with the change of the landscape and with hybrid beginning soon, <strong>we are now planning on beginning formal and\/or mini-observations when in person instruction resumes<\/strong>. Please see last weeks blog post for samples and which strands we will be using to have reflective conversations with this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"background-color:#8700d7\"><strong>Bits and Bobs<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HYBRID INFO:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/application\/files\/2616\/0579\/4651\/BLS_Middle_School_Hybrid_Schedule-1.pdf\">Here is a link<\/a> to the district&#8217;s generic MS hybrid schedule.  There will be a HDMS specific schedule coming soon that will likely include some adjustments (eg: lunch period).  The following components will remain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>school start\/end time<\/li><li>each class period is 65 min (this includes Advisory)<\/li><li>four periods per day<\/li><li>daily, school-wide teacher prep period to start the day<\/li><li>a block for &#8220;live support&#8221; for students learning from home that day<\/li><li>students attend school twice per week <ul><li>Cohort A on Mon &amp; Thurs<\/li><li>Cohort B on Tues &amp; Fri <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>two week schedule rotation <ul><li>week A = advisory, 1st, 2nd, 3rd<\/li><li>week B = 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th periods<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We know that many staff have questions about our return to hybrid.  Given that there is often question overlap and that answers may not be immediately available, we&#8217;d like to reinstitute the use of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1AE03_KaevAqEU26O-cinOypp4rlVO4MDph4VhWKaplQ\/edit?usp=sharing\">this HDMS Staff FAQ document<\/a><\/strong>.  We will do our best to swiftly answer questions (when we have answers) submitted on this document.  Questions emailed to us will likely be copied and pasted into this document and answered there.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Orchestra:&nbsp; Students are able to play, following all guidelines (students 6 ft apart, reduced students in each class, masks on etc)<\/li><li>Choir:&nbsp; Students are able to sing, following all guideline (students are 6ft apart, masks worn, reduced students in each class etc)<\/li><li>Band:&nbsp; At this time the district is not allowing students to play instruments.&nbsp; So band will need to look a bit different.&nbsp; It could be theory, history of music, percussion etc.<\/li><li>PE:  Students will not dress down (no access to locker rooms).  No use of shared equipment.  Masks worn, 6 ft apart.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CANVAS REMINDERS: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Please make sure to leave the &#8220;End Date&#8221; for your assignments blank, enabling students to access all assignments.<\/li><li>Please sync your Canvas grades with Synergy at least once per week, AND compare those grades with the grades you have in Canvas. Accuracy will become increasingly important as we near the end of the semester.<\/li><li>If your grades are not syncing properly, please do a &#8220;Grade Remaster,&#8221; which usually fixes the issue. DIRECTIONS:&nbsp;Go to whatever class you are syncing, then click on &#8220;Grade Sync&#8221; near the bottom of left-hand menu. Once there, go to Settings and click on &#8220;Remaster Grade Passback.&#8221;<\/li><li>As always, if you have&nbsp;any questions regarding Canvas, please contact your friendly Canvas Coach. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">YOUTH TRUTH SURVEY: The district will be using a group called <strong>YouthTruth to conduct student, family and staff surveys<\/strong> this winter\/spring.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 10-15 minute, online, anonymous survey will ask all staff members \u2013 both instructional and non-instructional alike \u2013 for feedback on topics like: culture, relationships, engagement, professional development &amp; support, and school safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please be thinking about what type of feedback you would like to share \u2013 both positive feedback and constructive criticism is useful and valued.
