First Six Week Celebration, 10/17 4:30-6:00

Join us for our first Six Week Celebration of the year on Thursday, October 17th from 4:30 to 6:00 at WVMS.  We will have a community meeting to go over the family handbook, expectations and share a six week checklist. This is a great time to connect with staff and other families, see what your students have been working on, enjoy a meal and see a performance.

Lost and Found

Please check the Lost and Found while you are at the Celebration Thursday!  There are already lots of unclaimed items that we hope can be returned to their owners.

The Lost and Found can be found in the main office vestibule during regular school hours.

Forest Inquiry Field Trip, 10/28

We will be taking a field trip to either Shevlin Park or the Deschutes River on Monday, October 28th to study the biodiversity of our local forest. Stay tuned for permission slips!

Harvest Fun

It is almost time for our harvest celebration which takes place during school (for the students) on Monday and Tuesday, October 28th and 29th. This is always a very fun time filled with crafts, sweet treats, academics related to harvest, and of course a Costume Fun Run on Tuesday. Students will rotate through festive activities including face painting, crafting, coding, baking, decorating and learning more about waste reduction, recycling, composting and more.

A few things to note about the harvest celebration:
– Students are welcome to dress in costumes but they need to be appropriate for all. Absolutely NO scary, gory or cultural appropriation.
– Please do not send small pieces as they inevitably get lost throughout the business of the day and we will not be here on the 31st to help find them!
– All students will participate in the fun run; please send your student with comfortable shoes.

-We encourage upcycled and homemade costumes. On Monday, students will have an opportunity to make a mask to wear instead of a costume.

Photo Opt-Out

During the school year we enjoy taking pictures of our students doing awesome things! These are used for school-only slide shows and sometimes to post on our social media pages.  We never share names of students.  If you wish that your student’s photo not be shared, please email Ms. Marcie or call the office.

To ensure the safety and supervision of all our students, we require that middle and elementary school students be accompanied by a parent/guardian when attending middle/high school games.

This policy helps us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and will contribute to a positive experience for all involved.

What are School Improvement: Early Release Wednesdays?

School Improvement Early Release Wednesdays allows time for teachers and staff for collaboration and educational growth. When teachers have the chance to discuss effective teaching methods, cooperatively design teaching materials and coach one another, our schools make significant improvements.

Providing consistent school improvement time is advantageous for students as it results in fewer interruptions of the school year.

Early Release Wednesdays for 2024-25 begins September 11, 2024 and ends on June 4, 2025. Early Release Time at WVMS: 2:05pm

What is the Village Council?

The Village Council develops and leads the work, follows articles of organization (bi-laws,) and makes decisions based on budget, finances, and input from our families and community members. Our open meetings are once a month during the school year. We highly encourage our families to attend. Please check the WVMS online calendar for Village Council Meeting Dates.

What is Friends of Westside Village?

Friends of Westside Village is our nonprofit organization that supports and guides our school improvement. It is a group of parents, guardians, community members and staff that works together to develop and monitor our school improvement plan. This includes  finances, curriculum, programs, and events. The Village Council is made up of Friends Volunteer Board Members and elected families, students, and school staff (traditionally known as Site Council.)

Friends of Westside Village also develops, directs and supplements our Extended Care Programs, Clubs, Adventures, Artists in Residence, and other enhancement academic and social activities.

Visit the Friends of Westside Village Website for more information.
