DEI
International events and increased awareness
Please keep extra eyes and ears out for anti-semitic comments or incidents right now. Our Jewish community is deeply impacted by recent international incidents and have indicated concern for increased bias incidents in this regard. Thank you for swiftly interrupting and reporting anything of this nature.
Halloween Costumes
A reminder to be thoughtful as you prepare for any staff or team costume themes. Avoid cultural appropriation or offensive caricatures or stereotypes. Some examples here.

STOCK MEDICATIONS
There have been a few inquiries about having stock medications such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, diphenhydramine available in our schools. At this time, BLS will not provide stock medications to students other than nalaxone and epinephrine (see information below).
- Oregon pharmacy law does not (yet) have carve-outs to prescribe any medications to an “entity” (ie the school population) with the exception of epi and naloxone.
- Oregon Board of Pharmacy requires that any entity that dispenses non-prescription medication have a license/certificate from them. I believe the license required is for a “non-prescription drug outlet.” I think it’s a few hundred dollars a year. It would be prudent for district legal to review that requirement if the program is going to be official.
- Pending updates, school medication administration laws currently don’t permit stock OTC medications; OAR 581-021-0037 requires medications be provided by parent/guardian or of-age student in their original container.
