Important Information
Adjustments to Hybrid Schedule – There are two changes that have been made to our Hybrid schedule. Please delete or throw away any previous schedules that were sent. The two changes are;
1) Changing the 20 minute break in the morning to a 10 minuted break.
2) Adding a 15 minute Advisory on Wednesdays.
Please see the new Schedule HERE.
Failing in “the 11th hour” – With two weeks asynchronous work, there is a possibility that students may fail in “the 11th hour” if something is assigned on February 3rd or 4th. Typically this isn’t as much of a concern because we normally have finals, and most assignments are done a few days prior. Please consider February 2nd to be your “End Date” and not to assign anything new or at least no major assignments where a student could fail at the last moment.
To Do
YouthTruth – If you have not taken the staff YouthTruth Survey yet, please do so ASAP! Survey closes on Jan 22nd. Staff Link: ytsurvey.org/lphsstaff21
SLGG’s (Due February 26th)– SLGG’s are ready to go! They are now in TalentEd. Staff are required to have two SLGG’s, but the state has shifted the requirements for the year to allow room for focusing on student engagement, family engagement, and the social-emotional health of students. Academic goals may be considered. For those of you who want to know all of the expectations you can find them here. It has been recommended by the state and this committee that administrators collaborate with staff to establish school-wide goals. Teachers may also choose individual goals in collaboration with their administrator.

Instructional Practices
Hybrid Research – Lindsey Spring has been doing a lot of research about Hybrid and she was kind enough to share her NOTES with us! Lindsey mentioned that she copied and pasted a lot of it and did a lot of “borrowing” from resources, and I am grateful that she did all the hard work and put her notes in one place for us. Thanks Lindsey!

Advisory
Starting Semester II, we will be running Advisory every Wednesday. Please see our Advisory list HERE. The names highlighted in yellow are our grade-level leaders. This team will be connecting with you regarding Advisory plans and activities.
The first opportunity you will have to meet with your Advisory group will be on February 1st and 2nd for 9th Grade, and February 3rd for 10th – 12th grade. More information will be coming on this, stay tuned!
Advisory Goals / Mission:
1. Reconnect with the students and create social interactions among peers and staff through games, team building, and open conversation.
2. Reinforce the school safety policies surrounding this unique return to school.
3. Teach “Tips and Tricks” for education success and graduation requirements.
Canvas
Canvas Support Team Actions:
Our LPHS Canvas Support Team (Baisch, Spring, Stukel, and Christian) have been meeting to discuss grading, Semester 1 ending, and looking ahead to Semester 2. They wanted to clue you in on some things they will be doing this week.
- On Monday/Tuesday they will be sending a checklist to their individual teams to complete. They are asking their team members to complete this checklist and take screen shots of the items. They are asking they send it to them no later than Friday January 22. These are mostly items that should have been done previously on January 8th.
- They will be establishing Office Hours for staff to use as support as we transition back. They are asking staff use these office hours as drop in virtually as not disrupt them in their classrooms or add more contact. They are asking that if you need help outside these hours to email them and allow 24 hours to respond back.
- They have begun the conversation of creating a checklist for end of semester 1/transition to semester 2. They are working to get this out to staff soon!
Canvas PD:
- BLP will be providing a great professional development opportunity, led by a Canvas Instructure facilitator. This session will be dedicated to teachers, presenting the most effective best practices in Canvas course design, not only for distance learning, but for future use in less restrictive environments. Save the date!

Helping Students and Educators Recover from Covid Trauma
Wondering how we are going to recover from the Covid Trauma as students and educators return to the classroom? Find answers and more in this great article on how to support the emotional well-being of both educators and students so that both healing and learning can begin.
CASEL SEL TOOLS – As Students Head Back To School
As we begin to transition from distance learning back to in-person learning, SEL remains as important as ever. This is the perfect time to re-examine our efforts to make needed adjustments and refocus on supportive relationships, equitable environments, and the academic, social, and emotional development and overall well-being of all students and adults.
ODE New Mental Health Resources: Mental health refers to the emotional, social, cognitive, behavioral, physical and relational thriving of individuals and systems. The Oregon Department of Education has recently created 2 valuable resources that are designed to assist school district leaders, administrators, staff, school-based mental health professionals and community partners in promoting the mental health and well-being of school communities.
The first resource, ODE Mental HealthTool Kit addresses six, primary content areas: (1) Leading from Strength to Promote Mental Health; (2) Addressing Traumatic Stress; (3) Elevating Student Voice; (4) Centering Racial Equity and Anti-racism; (5) Promoting Inclusive School Environments; and (6) Delivering Multi-tiered Systems of Support.
The second resource, includes information about ODE’s current mental health-related activities and initiatives such as Adi’s Act (suicide prevention) and the Strengthening Mental Health in Education initiative with OHA, as well as providing many tools and resources for students, families, school staff and leaders.
