Book Tasting Event

I don’t know about you, but unboxing new books is like Christmas morning filled with presents. As I pull out each book, I’m remembering how excited I was when I ordered it. I can’t wait to read them and even more, I can’t wait to share them with students and staff. But that’s where the problem can arise. How am I going to let everyone know about the newest and latest books we just acquired?

One creative way to do this is through a Book Tasting event. Many of our librarians have done this in the past with great results. Recently, Rebecca Wright, at Ponderosa Elementary created her own Book Tasting event that garnered a great response. She created a simple Book Tasting Menu, donned a borrowed apron from Nutritional Services and a chef’s hat from her principal, and used red paper for the tablecloths and flickering battery-operated candles that she already had. It’s amazing what you can do with what you have on hand. To set the mood, she dimmed the lights and played some background music. Then she gave students 3 minutes to peruse the books at their table before they switched to another table of books. So fun!
