Kids Inc. and Culminations

I just want to let you know that Walter and the Kids Inc. crew have been really gracious and flexible about working around our culmination needs (and lots of other needs).  Technically they have the gym until 6:00 pm as part of a partnership with BP&R and the district, so please go out your way to thank them for making it work for us. Anything we can do on our end to make it easier is very much appreciated.   For future planning, please know they have quite a few children (>80 on some days) under their care until 5:00. After that time the number drops significantly but typically they have a handful of students until 6:00.

Principal Shadow Day

On Friday 11/30 we will have a visitor from the Education Foundation shadowing me for the morning.  Our basic plan will be to walk all the classrooms and join the students at recess at 10:30, however if you have something specific for him to do with your class please let me know.  Our assigned honorary visitor is Kevin Rea, of Pedego Bikes.

BrightBytes Survey Reminder

Brightbytes Survey Window will close on the 30th.  Please see Instructions for teacher survey and student survey in separate emails.

First Aid

We have fallen below our required ratio of updated first aid card holders.  Please respond to the following survey to let me know how we should address this.  If we opt to schedule an SIW time, then we would need to identify another SIW to “trade back” the time, since we would be required to stay late to get the 4 hour training in; so we would stay late for one SIW but leave early for another.

Quick Survey

School Hours – School hours have been decided for next year.

  • Elementary will be 8:00-2:30 (8:00-1:00 on Wednesdays)
  • Middle School will be 8:45- 3:40
  • High School will be 8:45-3:45

The District Lead Together team is currently working on a process to collect input in order to determine work hours for our employees.

OU Appreciates Teachers!!

Please see below for an opportunity to attend a Duck Basketball Game.

The games are on 12/15 (Vs. Boise State) and 2/10 (Vs. Stanford). Tickets are at a discounted rate starting at just S11 a seat! In order to redeem your discount, click here and enter promo code 2019TEACH”.  Select your seats, and you’ll be all set. As mentioned, we will be recognizing teachers on those game days as well as offering an on-court photo post game to the first 50 education staff that sign up! If you could share the attachment flyer throughout your school, we’d really appreciate it.

United Way

Each year District staff have the opportunity to help many people in our communities through support for United Way of Deschutes County.  Information about United Way and the many programs they offer can be found in the attached document. In addition, below is a link to a video describing the support they provide in our communities.

Pledge cards are in your boxes.  Please return pledge cards to Shawna who will put them in the envelope and we will get them to payroll by December 14th.

Challenging Behaviors

I want to re-share the video Becky Eriksson shared with you via email a short while ago.  Please take the time to watch this video with an open-mind and open heart. In our effort to be more mindful and provide an environment that accepts all learning difference (academic and behavioral) as a normal part of our day this video gives great context to this overall challenge.  It takes time and patience and the work is never finished, so be kind to yourself as you navigate the work.
