4/28/23 Weekly Update

Highland Norms:  Linked here is a draft of Highland Norms.  If you have any concerns or questions regarding these norms, please make an appointment with me to share your concerns.

Erin’s Law Resources Linked Here Please fill in the tracking document after you complete the lessons.  I moved this to the top of the blog as we are reaching the end of the month (April is Abuse Awareness month) and I noticed we still have quite a few who need to sign off on completing these lessons.  You can continue to complete these lessons through May, but please remember testing starts soon, so you will have another demand on time.

MTSS Round 3: Thank you for your participation in the Tier 1 meetings on Wednesday.  I took a quick peek at your slides, but it looks like there is still some work to be done, so I will check back on them later.  These slides provide our documentation for completing Tier 1 processes of a multi-tiered system of support so it’s a crucial piece to the overall picture.  Tuesday we have the last Tier 2 meeting.  You should have received an email with links to your grade level data on Thursday morning.  Linked here is the schedule for the day.  Please make sure you leave clear plans ready for your subs and be sure you are on the stage at your meeting start time (highlighted in yellow).

OSAS Testing 3rd-5th Grades:  Here is a document with all of the testing training modules for the OSAS Testing. Our testing window begins on May 15th so you have some time to complete these but please do so before we begin. Thanks, Heidi T.

Spring is here!  There! I wrote it… so  therefore spring might actually be here to stay for a few weeks.  With the arrival of spring, we are closer to a BIG transition for our students.  There are so many factors that truly mess with our heads, so let’s try to remember that when students are “acting out” or “forgetting” everything they learned.  The porcupine brain is taking over for many students at times and it’s not a conscious choice to misbehave.  Find your curiosity and seek out the why.  Doing so allows us to get upstream and truly help our students to better cope with change.  Let’s do our best to avoid a fear-based (punitive consequences) environment for our classrooms and school.

ICCL positions:  For the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years all the ICCL positions are open.  If you are interested in being a part of the leadership team to guide this school with your new principal, consider completing the application.  We have not been given the greenlight to start hiring these positions yet, but  I will link the job description and application as soon as we can.  Be on the lookout!

From Heidi Thomas and Highland’s Culture of Care Team: Here is the link to our 22/23 Highland Culture of Care Folder. This is where our school expectations posters and videos will live. I have also made a copy of all of the Classroom 180 SIW slide decks and added them to the file.

We Play Wednesdays: Starting in May, we will use our combined morning recesses to allow olders to work with youngers on playing at recess. You will still have the same recess time but your students don’t need to worry about staying on the blacktop or field. Please send me the names of any 3rd, 4th or 5th graders that are interested in leading games during recess on Wednesdays mornings. I will have a quick meeting with them on Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the library.
