Thank you- Thanks to Kevin G. and Dave and James for all of their work moving furniture around and making sure everyone has the desks, tables and chairs they need to start on Monday. It is/was a massive undertaking and they made it look easy and smooth.
Thanks x 2- By the time we start back on Monday, that two week closure has turned into 389 days since we have had all of our students here at one time. It’s been a long journey. Thank you for all you’ve done to help students and families make the best of the past year +. I’m thrilled that all of our students will all be here and we can get back to doing what we do best.
Bend Science Station- Bend Science Station has put together some awesome science lessons for each grade level that have detailed directions, videos, and materials and complement our Amplify program. The goal was to provide teachers with lessons that will require very little preparation that kids will enjoy. These materials have been delivered to us and we are awaiting a one pager with directions for use. As soon as we get the directions, we’ll share the materials with you. Right now- do nothing. Just wanted you to know that it will be coming.
Fire/Earthquake Drill- This is scheduled for Monday at 10 AM. I’ve always had to make adjustments to things, but this year has taken adjustments to unprecedented levels. At the time I created drill schedule, third edition, we didn’t know that I scheduled something for the first day of our return to all in instruction. So, with that in mind, let’s change the Monday drill to Thursday. Also, it’s hard to find a time that doesn’t conflict with a transition, recess, lunch, etc. So we are going to go at 9:55 as it’s easier for fifth grade teachers to gather their class from recess than first grade. So, when we are finished, those with a 10:00 recess will stay out. Hope that doesn’t muddy the waters too much. Let me know if you have questions.
Conferences- As we embark on a month of conferences, I think it’s important to remember our audience. We are talking with parents about the one thing that matters most to them- their kids. Remember to learn from them about their kids as well as sharing what you know. It’s important that we model a partnership. Also remember that they don’t always have the same understanding of school and the education system as we do. The clip below sheds a little light on how some parents might view some things going on here at school.
