April 12

Important Information

Welcome Back [Again] ~

We are so excited to have all our students back on Monday, April 12! As a reminder, our school schedule is 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We release early, at 2:15 p.m., on Wednesdays for School Improvement Wednesday staff professional development work. You can view our All-In Bell Schedule HERE.

As we plan our return to All-in instruction, I want to share a few reminders:

Thanks to a federal grant, students will continue to enjoy breakfast, lunch and supper offerings at school at no cost at school. You will find the daily menu online at: https://bend.nutrislice.com

To ride the bus, students must be registered for transportation. Families can register by filling out this form or calling 541-355-5702. Once registered, families should check route times and bus top locations online on our Transportation webpage.

Every one of us can help to control the spread of COVID-19 in our community and schools. Join our students as they model exceptional COVID-19 prevention efforts by wearing a mask, regularly washing hands, maintaining physical distance, avoiding large gatherings, and staying home when you have symptoms. Together, we can follow proven public health practices that reduce our own chance of getting infected and prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our friends and family.

All-In Schedule

Here is our All-In Bell Schedule. This schedule will start on Monday, April 12th. Our doors will open at 9AM, and students will enter the school at the two [same] locations and will be checked for masks, food/drink, and “obvious” physical symptoms of not feeling well.

Hawk News!

The Show Will Go On!

The La Pine Performing Arts Program started rehearsals for The Lion King Jr. after Spring Break. It is the first time in over a year that music and theatre could both rehearse in person since the cancellation of last spring’s musical due to COVID. With limited rehearsal time, restrictions, and a variable of unknowns, the program chose to do a “junior” musical that is shorter but still has many of the fun elements a standard-length musical has! The production has 11 high school students and 4 middle school students participating. Currently, rehearsals are occurring in front of the school to maximize time and space to rehearse in a safe way according to guidelines. While there are added challenges this year with singing and audience restrictions, masks, and six-feet distancing, it is so good to be back singing, dancing, and acting together!  The show will premiere in some capacity on May 20 and May 21, but may be seen virtually, outside, or limited inside depending on the current county guidelines on those dates! For now, students are busy working to “be prepared” with their Pride and embracing the “Hakuna Matata” lifestyle that the 2020-2021 school year has taught us!

Advisory

We are keeping Advisory on Wednesdays . . . and now we can do it in person! We have created some momentum with Advisory and we felt it was beneficial to keep it in place. It’s still only 15 minutes (not long), but it will allow us to do check-ins, announcements, grade-checks, and some fun team-building activities.

Athletics

We are transitioning quickly to spring sports!  HERE are our events this week, including dismissal times.

All athletes who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 6 months MUST have this form completed by Wednesday, April 14th to continue participating in any district sponsored athletic activity. This does not apply to students in general physical education. The completed forms need to be sent to the school nurse for final clearance. Nurses will be asked to initial and date the form and send to the athletic secretary or the athletic director (whichever the school/nurse prefers). Once athletics receives the initialed and dated form from the nurse, the athlete will be cleared to return to athletics.

State Testing

The United States Department of Education (ED) responded to Oregon’s strategic waiver request on Friday, March 26, 2021. ED did NOT approve Oregon’s request to suspend state testing for 2021. However, there are opportunities regarding what spring 2021 summative assessment expectations will look like in Oregon.

What we know right now:

  • State testing (OSAS) is happening but the tests are shorter and not all grade levels are required to take all subjects (for HS only 11th graders are required to test)
  • Opt-out procedures are the same as other years – Opt-out forms are below
  • Testing window is April 13 – June 11.
  • Testing data will be reported publicly but not used for accountability.

It measures a young adult’s strengths and potential for success.   It can be taken for many reasons such as learning to take placement test, military aptitude, and career choices.  ASVAB test scores are broken down by the individual subtests and their composites. One of the most critical of these scores is the Armed Forces Qualification Test, which is used to determine if you are qualified to join the military service. Each service determines the qualification AFQT score for enlisting in their service. You can take this as early as your Sophomore year!  You can take it as many times as needed to receive a high score.  This year we will be taking the test on the computer.  If you have any questions or would like to sign up, please e-mail Mrs. Montgomery
