iPads
Once again students will be allowed to keep their loaner iPads with them throughout the summer months. This will provide students with a device to continue learning opportunities over the summer.
If you will not be attending a Bend-La Pine Schools program or school next year, please return your iPad, charging brick and cord to your current school. Schools will be communicating their return schedule directly to families. If you will be attending a different Bend-La Pine Schools program or school next year, keep the iPad you have and take it with you to your new site in September.
Sometimes plans change during the summer. If you find yourself moving out of the area or leaving the district during the summer and need to return your iPad, please drop it off Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Education Center located at 520 Wall Street, Bend. Please remember to also return your charging brick and cord at this time. The fee for a missing cord is $5 and a missing charging brick is $20.
DISTRICT ISSUED HOTSPOTS
All students who have a district-issued hotspot at their home are asked to return the hotspot and charging equipment to the school front office by June 18. Service to all hotspots will end on June 18. Any hotspot that has not been returned to school will cease to function beyond this date.

What will school look like next year?
From Interim Superintendent Lora Nordquist:
Full Article HERE
As we move into the final weeks of the school year, I know many families are beginning to think about what school might look like when we return in the fall. I am pleased to share that our plan is that on Wednesday, Sept. 8, our schools will open for the first day of school. Schools will be in-person, every day of the week, with a full-day schedule. We expect our bell times to return to pre-pandemic times, in large part because we will be able to resume fuller bus runs.
Details will continue to evolve and, as we have learned all too well, unforeseen health and safety circumstances may lead to changes, but we expect our school days will look much more like they did pre-pandemic.
As more students and more of our community members are able to become vaccinated, we anticipate we will have fewer issues with quarantines and contact tracing. Additionally, with the opening of Caldera High School this fall, most of our high schools will see an ease in crowding in our hallways and common spaces.
Athletics and activities will become more normalized and, while not as certain, we believe we will see a return to valued school experiences like in-person music concerts, plays, dances, school-wide assemblies, field trips and more.
We hope for a phased-in return of visitors and volunteers in our schools – we have missed seeing you in our hallways and classrooms!
Some of the safety precautions put in place are likely to continue next year. We will continue to follow the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance issued by the Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority.
For families who choose not to return to in-person schooling, our robust online program will continue, with many of this year’s enhancements folded into Bend-La Pine Schools Online: local teachers’ support and opportunities for live instruction via Webex, for example.
Educating your children is a privilege that we take very seriously and we appreciate your trust with their health and well being. I am proud of our staff members for taking on new challenges this year. And when I visit classrooms, I am thrilled to see our students learning, collaborating, connecting and adapting to challenges.
We are returning to brighter days. Thank you for your partnership today and every day.
