- 12/9/19- Jay Smooth – How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Discussing Race: This TedX Talk is one that is shared as part of Taking It Up participation after participants have taken some time to wrestle with different definitions and ideas around race and racism in our schools. There are several talking points presented within this video but I think it is a telling way to highlight just how difficult these conversations can be. Separation of “what you said or what you did” from “what you are” is a particularly poignant idea for our work as educators and can be used as a framework as we work with students in a variety of different aspects- behavior difficulties in particular. I’d love to hear your thoughts after you have watched this video.

By giving a compliment to someone, they are not the only beneficiary and that trip down the hall to be in another class might help you and our community more than you may think.
