We aren’t quite due for another blog post yet, but there are so many high school things coming up soon that it warrants this message!
Friday: Grading Day & Limerick Competition
Trimester 2 Grading is now open. Please send/post grades by end of the day Friday (see Jill’s email from Wednesday, 3/15 for more details!)
Friday is your protected grading day, so there are no staff meetings. There IS, however, an optional lunch meet-up in the middle commons at 12:30 hosted by the Sunshine Committee. Bring your lunch and your original Limerick (on the theme of Realms or Teaching… you can still show up if you don’t have a poem) for a St. Patrick’s Day-Themed Competition! Prizes and Beverages included. See Allie’s email from Monday, 3/13 for more details!
Monday: Start of Tri 3 & Community Meeting
Jae, Maya, and Zach are leading the charge on preparing a community meeting on Monday, which will kick off the series of community meetings that will take us to the end of the year.
- 11:30 – 11:40 Write Appreciations in Crew (Appreciations Guidance Doc)
- 11:40 – 11:45 Transition to Community meeting
- Bring Chairs, Leave Bags
- A Dwelling in the Ferns will be playing as students arrive
- 11:45-12:15 Community Meeting
I still need to finish adding the remainder of these dates to the Outlook and Master Crew Calendars, but here are the revised dates for the meetings between now and the end of the year:
- Monday, March 20th: Staff Leads Community Meeting on the theme of Integrity
- Thursday, April 13th: Michelle’s Crew Leads Community Meeting on the theme of Compassion
- Friday, May 5th: Allie’s Crew Leads Community Meeting on the theme of Service
- Friday, May 19th: Senior Celebration (Jen Leads)
- Friday, May 26th: Tyler’s Crew Leads Community Meeting on the Theme of Joy
- June 6th – Senior Final Words/Videos for Freshmen
INVITING HONORS SECTIONS FOR 3rd TRIMESTER!
As you know, we have had lots of conversations about keeping our “most ready” students engaged and challenged and we have heard from many of them that this is something they are struggling with as students here!
As we work to build consistent opportunities to keep these most capable students challenged, we have experimented with Honors Sections of certain 9th and 10th grade courses, and I would like to continue to build on the successes we have had with that so far.
For our core subject areas classes at 9th and 10th grade (math, bio, lit/comp and social studies – these are courses that have “honors sections” available to us in Synergy) we are encouraging any teachers who are interested to offer an honors section during the 3rd trimester!
The Stipend:
Any teacher who would like to offer an Honors “track” can apply for a timesheet stipend of up to 10 additional hours of additional paid planning time (at the curriculum rate) AND also take a half days of sub release planning time where we will cover for your sub. OR, if you prefer you can trade the timesheet hours for an additional half day sub release.
Please let Roger know ASAP if you are interested as we’d like to make sure that students hear about the opportunity EARLY in the trimester!
Tuesday: PreACT (10th Grade)
The PreACT will be held in Tyler and Michelle’s rooms on Tuesday from the start of the day until lunch (approximately). The most-impacted staff received a separate email from me (regarding coverage, etc), but we can all help out in keeping hallways quiet and respectful Tuesday morning.
Tuesday or Thursday (3/21 or 3/23): Forecasting in Crew – Final Step!
9th, 10th, and 11th grade Crew Leaders – please plan on taking about 20 minutes to complete the final step of forecasting in Crew next week. Jen & Addy have been working hard to clean up students’ choices, and will be delivering you a stack of papers with your students’ choices in the next couple of days (and directions for what to do with them!)
Friday (3/24): Fun Friday
The survey results were very much in favor of running Fun Friday… so we are! The specific offerings (and other logistics) are still to come, but we do have an altered bell schedule to share with you:

3rd Trimester Duty Schedule
As the weather improves we need to keep our supervision duties robust! There have been just a few TINY tweaks to the 3rd trimester duty schedule – please take a look!
Also, we will be reminding and tightening with our 9th graders on the ON CAMPUS LUNCH rule here… as the weather improves this will be tested. 9th graders who leave campus at lunch will be assigned lunch detentions as a consequence.
From the District: Request for Digital Tools for All Classes
Teachers Only: Please see this message from Dean Richards…
It is the time of year for us to begin to make requests for next year. This year the requests will come in 2 phases.
- Phase 1 – You will request digital collaboration, engagement, and productivity tools not specific to classes.
- Phase 2 – You will request all other tools (textbooks, supplemental content, digital tools, etc) that are specific to the course or subject area you are teaching
All teachers should complete both phases. Every request will be evaluated using established criteria.
Phase 1 – March 20-May 19
- Please request tools that you will use for instruction in all classes
- Request tools that you would like to use in the 23-24 school year for collaboration, engagement and productivity, such as:
- PearDeck
- Gimkit
- Padlet
- Digital curriculum, hard bound text, or digital text need to be linked to your classes and will be requested in Phase 2.
- Because teachers will have access to the following collaboration, engagement and productivity tools, there is no need to request these tools:
- Canvas
- Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc)
- Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
- Canva Edu
- If a request for a specific collaboration, engagement and productivity tool is denied, you will receive an email with the reason and an opportunity to make a different request
- Link to Google Form
Phase 2 – Late April-May 19
In late April you will receive an email from ‘BLP Instructional Technology’ in which you will be asked to request curriculum (physical and digital) and tools that are for specific courses you will be teaching in the 23-24 school year.
