Big Ups!
Yen-Ling for coordinating another successful Intensives week! This one was WACKY with lots of subs, bus handoffs, kids being sent out of Tamarack, and kids needing unexpected pick ups from the field. As always, Yen-Ling navigated the shifting sands (and my early morning texts) calmly and confidently. Thank you for coordinating this awesome week for our kids!
Ian White for navigating 6th Grade Sex Ed. I am super impressed with the thoughtfulness with which Ian delivers the content and follows up with students and parents. Our 6th graders are a rather immature bunch, so this is really no small feat. On top of this, teaching sex ed requires lots of parent communication and tracking of opt-outs. Thank you for charging through an important task that I don’t think ANY of us envy!!
Heidi is one of the District Excellence in Education Certified Finalists!! Woah! That means she is going to be celebrated in lots of upcoming messaging, including the district fall kick off. Congrats, Heidi!

Zach Sub Notes
Here are the sub notes that I’ve been compiling for Robi. (no need to review unless curious)
Intro:
Teachers,
Robi Cole will be stepping in as the substitute principal when I step out to welcome my son earthside.
Robi has lots of school admin experience and will be a great consultant or support for discipline issues or in the event of an emergency. Robi will also be helping with lunch/hallway duties and pushing a few projects forward for us.
As usual, please use the SSC and/or the Learning Lab (as dictated by the situation) and our SSC and Learning Lab folks know to reach out to Kat, Caleb, Addy, or Renee for support as needed.
Below (in the doc) is the information that I have shared with Robi as well.
Robi’s cell is 541-948-2584.
Robi – THANK YOU for helping out!
-Zach
JScal out May 22-24
Next week, I will be out of the office on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
If you need a P-card, please stop by my office before Wednesday or check with Sommer during my absence.
Lisa and Sommer will be assembling substitute binders in the mornings. If you need to take time off, please send your sub plans to them.
I will have my cell phone if there are any issues.
HS Teachers: ILT & Robi Walkthroughs
Did you know we are in the middle of earning our accreditation at the high school?? One of the requirements of this LONG process is that a small team observes and assesses our Learning Environment.
I’ve asked Heidi, Anita, and Robi to do this for us, so you might see them stepping into your class to take some notes. Please know that this is NOT for any kind of individual assessment or judgement, but rather gathering data for us to consider as a whole. If you are curious, here is the walkthrough tool that they will be using, but this is nothing you need to prepare for.
Bell Schedule Updates
Middle School: I am moving forward submitting our new bell schedule for 2024-25: 45 minute Crew first and a 20 minute break in the morning.
High School: After much consideration, we are going to make no change to the bell schedule for next school year.
MS ICCL/ILT Opening for Next Year
ILT members are hired on a 2-year contract. Ian, Heidi, and Anita are were all new hires this year and are therefore set to return next year. Delaney is wrapping up her 2nd awesome year of service, which means that we have an opening for a new Middle School ILT member to join next year.
The position will be posted in UKG in the next couple of days. Please reach out to me or to any of our ILT members if you have any questions about what this opportunity entails, and thank you in advance for your interest in this important role.
Subject: Intensives feedback
Good Morning Zach,
I am sure often the negative emails and feedbacks sometimes out weigh the positives, and I just wanted to share with you Zaiden’s feedback from this week. He started Monday really really bummed that a day was cut out from the intensives. He talked about it all morning off and on grumbling about it. He got his second choice which was Photography. Every day he came home he had a smile on his face and was exhausted from the day. On Friday, I overheard him get on his computer with friends and I quote “well it’s over, my intensive, I’m devastated, I wish we could do that for six or eight weeks”. So, I think it’s safe to say, at least in regards to my son, your school program is an overwhelming success and we are so grateful to be there and have this opportunity. We see and appreciate all that you and your staff do. Thank you.
Warmly,
Lesley
