Two Crew To-Do’s

1. EL Crew Survey – December 5th-16th (15 minute survey)

It is once again time to administer the EL Education Crew Survey. This 15-minute survey gives us valuable student experience data that can direct our professional development efforts, so we really appreciate you each taking the time to set students up to take it seriously. Please find 15 minutes between 12/5 and 12/16 to administer this survey.

2. SRP Training Video (7:25)

This video describes the differences between the different “Standard Response Protocols”… like the difference between a Lockdown and Secure. Sure, this would have made more sense to show at the beginning of the year, but it is good to keep these protocols fresh and fluent.

Again, please find a time before winter break to show this video. Our December drill is not on the #onerealms Outlook calendar yet, but will be soon!

Info Night Staffing – Still Could Use Help ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the sign ups for our evening Info Night Sessions coming up in January… as I mentioned earlier, these nights are a cool (and yes, extra) part of working at a choice option school, and your presence says A LOT about who we are as a school and who we are as a staff team. So thank you. I have posted the “roster” as it stands so far.

We are still a little thin on staffing for these two nights… in particular we could use more high school teacher representation on both nights and a little more MS representation if possible on the 2nd night. Please let me know if there is an obstacle I can help with (if this ia a compensation or comp time issue, let me know!). Greg… you indicated an ability to be at both, thank you. If we get other sign ups I will take you off the 2nd night ๐Ÿ™‚

If you haven’t had the chance to sign up yet, you can do so here:

Listening Sessions – Your Input (and Invite)

We (Admin & Equity Team) are going to hold several Listening Sessions hear more about our student’s experiences at our school and build our “vision for student experience at RMS and RHS” Several times throughout the year, we will invite 5-7 students from RMS/RHS to meet together and share successes and challenges they’ve had in their experience at REALMS.

The background on this work comes from the Center for Educational Leadership and these “protocol based listening sessions” are happening at all schools in our District…. we are trying to really get student voice at the center of our thinking and visioning. Roger sat in on two sessions at LPHS recently and they were very powerful!

We are looking for your QUICK nominations of students who: 1) experience inequities in school, 2) we might not always hear from, and 3) would have something to say when given the chance. 4) these can be students who are “farthest from justice” but can also be students who are academically or socially strong… all types of kids here are welcome! We will use your contributions to create groups representing diverse viewpoints. We are trying to get these sessions going ASAP, so please help us identify students who would share their valuable opinions!

DO NOW: Please enter 1-3 (or more!) student nominations, feel free to focus especially on your Crew, into the Listening Sessions Student Nominations Sheet.

Spring Testing Information

SBAC, ACT, & AP… oh my!

In the table below you can see the SBAC testing dates for this Spring (some in March, April, and May). Ideally these will not change between now and then so teachers can plan accordingly, but if there is a problem/conflict with one or more of these dates please let Zach know ASAP!

In other testing news…

  • The ACT will be offered on Saturday, April 15th at Mountain View High School. Interested 10th, 11th, or 12th grade students should sign up on ACT.org
  • We have a really solid number of students taking AP tests this year! AP tests run from about 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM. We will provide a list of who will be missing classes that morning when the dates get closer.
    • US Government & Politics: Monday, 5/1
    • Environmental Science: Tuesday, 5/2
