Happy February! As a reminder, we will be linking the monthly Administrator Helpful Hints to the blog at the beginning of each month, so that something doesn’t sneak up on you and catch you off guard. Here is the link where you can find things you can check off your list for the month of February. Remember, this is a list to guide your work.
Focus on Excellence and Equity…
See you tomorrow for our State of Schools at Sky View Middle School. This is for all principals and assistant principals and student services are also invited. Bring your journal, something to write on, and be ready to engage and learn. Grab and go lunch will be provided.
Updates, Reminders, Department Info and Rants…
Classified Subs – it appears (knock on wood) that the Omicron surge is dwindling and on the way out. We still might experience some shortages but things are looking as they were before the surge. This means that we will not be filling all your classified openings you have each day. Please hold off on reaching out for help until you are at a tipping point. This means that you need to try to cover duties within first before calling Scott Bojanowski for support.
New Enrollment and ACR process – Rachel Mavis recently sent information to Office Managers and registrars, but here is information for you as well.
We want to bring your attention to changes to the enrollment and Area Change Request (ACR) process starting this year. There are several reasons for the changes, many of which have to do with aligning all K-12 schools and having a more centralized system. Below are the specific changes you need to be aware of and how it will impact your registration process and ACR approval.
- New! Enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year (and each year after) now takes place starting 2/1/2022. In the past, we usually waited until April, but that is no longer the case. You must start accepting enrollments now if they come in.
- ACRs for incoming 1st-5th grade are still due by March 1, 2022 to be assured of a place at the school of request for the 2022-2023 school year. ACRs turned in after that date will be held until August to see if there is still space in the school. This part of the process has not changed.
- ACRs for incoming kindergarten are still due by May 1, 2022 to be assured of a place at the school of request for the 2022-2023 school year. ACRs turned in after that date will be held until August to see if there is still space in the school. This part of the process has not changed.
- New! Families filling out an ACR and are not currently enrolled in another school in Bend-La Pine, must also fill out an enrollment as well. ACRs will not be accepted without an enrollment form. If the family is already in Bend-La Pine, they have already filled out the enrollment. Kindergarten students are not currently enrolled, so will need to fill out an enrollment form along with the ACR.
Here is the information parents can access online as well.
Feb 23rd School Discretion SIW and Mary Ehrenworth – We realize that these two events conflict. We apologize about that, but can’t miss out on the opportunity to work with Mary. we always come away from working with her inspired, and we could all use a little bit of that right now. Due to a K-12 agreement, we cannot sway teacher prep SIWs and School Discretion SIWs. We recommend using your building ICCL team and/or teacher leaders to run the school PD that day in your absence.
Recent newsletters – here is the Counseling newsletter and TLC newsletter.
The Red Zone – Things to Share or Do…
Changes? Just a reminder that before you make any changes to your meal plans to run those changes by Skip and Tammy. It is also wise to make this a collaborative process and engage your ICCL team and Safety team in the process.
From Tami Pike: Please share with your staff as soon as possible. For staff submitting for retroactive COVID-19 credit, please do not send your school nurse the form for signature. The forms should be sent via district mail (not via email) to Tami Pike. Please include a copy of your submitted leave sheet.
Another From Tami Pike – A friendly reminder that if you are not “up-to-date” with your COVID-19 vaccinations (for most, that means being boosted if your initial vaccines were not in the last 5 months), you will be required to follow the quarantine protocol if you are identified as a close contact to a positive case. You do not need to quarantine, if you have had a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis from a lab, health care provider, or health department in the last 90 days. Here is the most current vaccine information.
A survey just for Principals – How many hours are you scheduled to be on duty per day? This could be a before or after school duty, a recess duty, a lunch duty, running small groups or teaching a class – anything in which your name actually appears on the schedule. It isn’t when you just fill in for someone. We are asking for this information so we can get a general idea of the number of hours our administrators dedicate to these tasks. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey. Thanks!
