THE SPECIAL EDGE APRIL 9, 2025

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Occupational Therapy Services Next Year

We will have some changes in Occupational Therapy (OT) services that will start in the fall of 2025.  Starting next school year, BLS will hire our own OT’s, rather than purchase the services through the HDESD.

Why is BLS hiring their own OT’s?

After years of consideration and feedback from building staff, the decision was made to administer our own OT program in an effort to increase efficiency.  Having a local group of OTs, who only serve BLS schools, will allow for increased service, coordination, and local oversight of OT programming.

What will be different?

You will not see any remarkable changes in the programming that you have been receiving from OT’s.  That said, we will engage stakeholders and continue to seek feedback as we design.

Do I need to do anything different when writing IEPs or considering OT services at this time?

No…please use your typical process and consideration of OT services on student IEPs moving forward.

We will provide more information ongoing as needed.  If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact any student services administrator.

CERTIFIED STAFFHUMAN RESOURCES

Contract letters for licensed employees were sent to all licensed employees via UKG and must be returned no later than April 15.

If you have not yet completed yours, please log in to UKG to review and submit your response as soon as possible.

Administrators, please ensure your staff are aware of this deadline and follow up as needed – and don’t forget to return yours too!.

COACHES CORNER

Breaking Barriers is just around the corner, Tuesday, April 22 and it is free for students and staff to attend!  We look forward to seeing you! Here are the directions on how to register staff and students.

Staff Registration

All staff attending must register individually. When registering, please ensure that the “Company Name” field is filled in so we know which school/district you are coming from. Staff should select “Registration Fee – Defer Payment” when registering.

Student Registration

To simplify the process, we ask that teachers register students by emailing a complete list to [email protected]. Please include the following information for each student:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Dietary Restrictions (if any)
  • Breakout Session 1
  • Breakout Session 2
  • Breakout Session 3

We have found this method to be much more efficient than having students register themselves.

If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to Shela Buerger, Office Manager at CODSN [email protected] or 541.604.2191

Restraint & Seclusion Paperwork

Please remember to turn in any Restraint & Seclusion paperwork as soon as possible after the incident and debriefing occur.  We are required to enter them into Synergy, and it helps assist us to enter them in a timely manner.

In addition, when you complete a debriefing, please make sure to have all the required participants present; Building Admin, all staff that participated, Parent (optional, must be invited, but not required to attend).
