  • Interacting with the other students
  • Arguing my point
  • Moving/standing while working
  • Problem solving
  • This class is preparing me for high school and college

BITS AND BOBS

Site Council

Due to limited interest in being on this team there is no need to have a vote.  Laurie Walsh was the solo certified staff who has shared an interest.  Kerri Green was the solo classified staff who shared interest.  We have one parent who was interested but unable to join the team for the first meeting.  Our first meeting will be Jan 9th at 3:00 pm.  I will publish the notes from the meeting and put them in the blog under the Document Tab.

Staff work hours

We recently asked folks to weigh in on three options around their start time for next year. At a District Leadership Team (made up of classified, certified and administrative employees) meeting earlier this week they took a look at the results and reviewed all of the comments. Here are the survey results from middle school staff. A recommendation will go to Shay by the end of January.

Funding

Governor Kate Brown has released her recommended budget. This year the Governor’s Recommended Budget includes clear priorities to better fund k-12 schools. Still a long way from being approved, it is nonetheless welcome news to have funding Oregon schools closer to the national average (QEM) than it ever has been in recent memory. Here are some highlights of the Governor’s Recommended Budget.

Absent Students

HDMS has a team of folks digging into our chronically absent students and trying to understand what we can implement to improve in this area.  One major driver for chronic absenteeism is disengagement from school. In fact, the Chronic Absenteeism Report put out by the Chief Education Office in 2017 noted that when asked if they could change “just one thing” about school, 75% of students interviewed said they wanted improved relationships with teachers.  (Stevens and Kim-Gervey 2017).  It is hard to read things like this – because I know this is something that can be fixed if/when we become aware of it.

Tardy Data

Two students were tardy four or more times from December 7th through December 13th.  There were two repeat offenders who will serve lunch detention and zero egregious tardies.

All students appearing on this report for the first time received a written notice with their specific tardy data; additionally, their family was notified of this warning.
