Red Robin Fundraiser
Thanks to everyone who came out to support our Red Robin fundraiser on October 30th. We raised $335 for Friends of Westside Village! Stay tuned for the next one!
College & Career Day, November 21
It’s that time of year again! November 21st is College and Career Day in Bend-La Pine Schools. Westside Village encourages students to explore the multitude of pathways available to students after they graduate high school. This is a K-12 day! We want all students to be dreaming about what options they have after they leave our schools and striving to meet their infinite potential.
Family Thanksgiving Lunch, November 21
Thursday, November 21st we will be serving “Thanksgiving Dinner” at school at lunch time. Families are invited to join their students for lunch. Please bring your ID to sign in and arrive at 12:00 to allow time to sign in. Please RSVP so Ms. Kelly knows how much food to prepare. We will also pre print name badges for those that RSVP. Price is $5.00 for adults and $3.50 for siblings. Exact cash and check accepted (no cards), or you can prepay here or by using the QR below. WVMS student meals will be free of charge, but any family attending will need to pay for their meal.

Get ready for an exciting day as our school community comes together to host the Winter Bazaar! This event offers a unique opportunity for students to flex their entrepreneurial skills by setting up tables to showcase their projects, crafts, or items for sale. In addition to student tables, we welcome community vendors! If you’re interested in reserving a spot to share your products with our vibrant community, you can book a vendor table. This is always a very fun time filled with crafts, sweet treats, academics related to harvest, and of course a Costume Fun Run on Tuesday. Students will rotate through festive activities including face painting, crafting, coding, baking, decorating and learning more about waste reduction, recycling, composting and more.
If you are available and interested in volunteering please contact us and we will be sure to get back to you asap!

– Students are welcome to dress in costumes but they need to be appropriate for all. Absolutely NO scary, gory or cultural appropriation.

During the school year we enjoy taking pictures of our students doing awesome things! These are used for school-only slide shows and sometimes to post on our social media pages. We never share names of students. If you wish that your student’s photo not be shared, please email Ms. Marcie or call the office.

Our 5th grade students will be headed to Camp Tamarack Wednesday, October 9th – Friday, October 11th. Almost all permission slips are in- thank you! 8th Grade Backpacking
Our 8th grade students will be headed backpacking along the Metolius River Wednesday, October 9th – Friday, October 11th. Find more information here and the permission slip here. Students are expected to be at school at 8:00am on Wednesday, October 9th. They are also expected to pack their own lunch for all three days.
Please return permission slips and money asap so that we can plan accordingly. The cost is $35 and can be paid with cash, check or card in the office or on the friendsofwestside.com website.
Village Council Meeting
We had a fabulous Village Council this morning we lots of great ideas! We look forward to solidifying those ideas at a follow-up meeting next Wednesday, October 9th at 8:15 in the library. This meeting will focus on finances and fundraising. Village Council will meet the first Wednesday of each month (except for non school days).

As cooler weather approaches we can expect a rise in illnesses. Please click here to familiarize yourself with the district’s health information and guidelines for keeping students home when sick. Some common guidelines to know are:

Diarrhea: Three or more watery or loose stools in 24 hours OR sudden onset of loose stools OR student unable to control bowel function when previously able.
MAY RETURN AFTER 24 hours after diarrhea resolves OR after seen and cleared by a licensed healthcare provider OR LPHA for specific diarrheal diagnoses.

Smile! Dorian Studios will be at our school for fall pictures on Friday, September 27th. All students will be photographed. Order forms went home and are available in the office, or you can order online. Find more information HERE.
iPad Insurance (6th – 8th)
iPad insurance (6th-8th graders) can be paid online by going to the district website Parent Tools page and clicking FEES AND FINES. Username is your Student’s 6 digit ID number and password is your Student’s last name (Upper case first letter). The cost is $30 per school year and there is a family cap of $60. Payment can also be made by cash, check or card in the office. iPad insurance is not required, but strongly encouraged. Insurance cannot be purchased after an iPad is damaged. iPad insurance does not cover a lost iPad.

Speech Screening K-3
Hearing screenings for all kindergarten and 3rd grade students will be held within the first few weeks of school. Kindergarteners also participate in speech and language screenings. If you wish your child to not participate in the screenings, please contact the school. You will only be notified of the results of the screening if your child needs further assessment by a specialist. If you are not notified, you can assume your child passed the screening. Expect results, as needed, within 2-3 weeks after the screening.

We have loved welcoming the Centers back to school this week! We have been learning about our community and working on lots of name art. North and South (2nd-5th)
Wow, what a fabulous start to the school year! Upstairs, we have begun our math, language arts, and thematic rotations. Students have been learning our systems and expectations for our school community culture, as well as participating in identity and get to know you activities. Please be sure to schedule your student-led goal setting conferences if you haven’t already.
Elders (6th-8th)
Last week the Elders learned some of our routines around math and language arts. We reflected in our Response Journals about the picture book Be You and tried out some math puzzles in our MSEI logs. We brainstormed iPad expectations for school. We learned about our community by playing a bunch of get-to-know-you games and taking surveys about reading and math.

Our Elders will be going on their annual camping trip the second week of school! We will be headed to Cultus Lake Weds, 9/11 to Fri, 9/13. Students should arrive to school at 8:15am on Wednesday morning so that we are ready to leave NO LATER than 9:00am. Our busses have to be back for their routes and cannot wait for late students.

Sign Up for Extended Care, Clubs & Fall Sports!
Please sign up for Extended Care, Clubs, and Sports if you are interested and haven’t already. Visit www.friendsofwestside.com. If you need a scholarship, please fill out an application and get your paperwork to the front office asap. Once you are approved you will receive a code that is valid for the whole year.

Office Hours: Our Main Office hours are 8:00am-4:00pm
School Hours: 8:35am-3:35pm. Early release Weds: 8:35am-2:05pm (starting 9/11). Breakfast is served from 8:20am-8:35am (enter through Great Room doors). Front Rotunda doors open at 8:35am.
Entering our Parking Lot/Drive: Our drive is ONE WAY! Please always ENTER from 13th St. and EXIT onto 12th.
Drop Off/Pick Up Areas: There are many options for dropping off/picking up students. Some families pull into our drive (remember, it is ONE WAY) and drop off/pick up right at the sidewalk/doors, some families park on a side street and walk students up to the front rotunda doors, and some families have a meeting place/regular parking spot where students know to meet. 12th Street tends to be a little busier; we recommend Lexington or 13th St. if you are parking and walking or having your student meet you.
School Supplies: We provide all school supplies that your student will need. Feel free to get send your student with a backpack and water bottle, and we’ll provide everything else! We recommend labeling all personal items so that if they are lost, they can be returned.
Attendance: To report an absence, please email [email protected] or call the office (541) 355-2000 and make sure to include the reason for the absence. Parents/Guardians have 3 days to excuse an unexcused absence.
iPad Insurance (6th-8th graders): iPad insurance (6th-8th graders) can be paid online by going to the district website Parent Tools page and clicking FEES AND FINES. Username is your Student’s 6 digit ID number and password is your Student’s last name (Upper case first letter). Payment can also be made by cash, check or card in the office. iPad insurance is not required, but strongly encouraged. Insurance cannot be purchased after an iPad is damaged. iPad insurance does not cover a lost iPad.
School Meals: All students will receive FREE breakfast and lunch this year; no application is necessary. If your student would like a second meal or second milk, they will need to purchase those items. Visit the district website to learn how to load money onto a meal account using BLPay.
Student Medication: Medication should be dropped off in the office and the proper paperwork must be filled out by a Parent/Guardian. It is never ok for a student to carry medication on them – even over the counter medication. All medication must be in its original container/box and within the expiration period.

Volunteering: We LOVE Volunteers! Visit the district website for instructions on how to become a volunteer. Once you are approved, please reach out so that we can let you know of volunteer opportunities. You must be an approved volunteer to accompany us on any field trips. The process takes up to one week, so please plan accordingly.

If your phone number, address, or email has changed or you need to add/remove emergency contacts for your student, please do so in Parent Vue or call or email Ms. Marcie. School Starts Weds, Sept 4th for ALL WVMS Students, K-8th
Westside Village students ALL start on Wednesday, September 4th. The Bend-La Pine calendar shows a different start time for Kindergarteners and 7th and 8th grade students – this does not apply to Westside Village students. ALL K-8 start on Wednesday, September 4th from 8:35am-3:35pm. Early Release Wednesdays will begin the following week, on September 11th.
Elder Camping at Cultus Lake 9/11-9/13
Our Elders will be going on their annual camping trip the second week of school! We will be headed to Cultus Lake Weds, 9/11 to Fri, 9/13. Students should arrive to school at 8:15am on Wednesday morning so that we are ready to leave NO LATER than 9:00am. Our busses have to be back for their routes and cannot wait for late students.
Permission slips and an informational letter will go home the first week of school. The cost is $50 per student. Payment is due Tuesday, 9/10. Payments can be made in the office with card, cash or check.
Visitor Management (Scan Your ID)
Anytime you wish to enter our building during school hours, you must scan your ID and wear a visitor badge. If you have never used your ID to sign in to a Bend-La Pine school, feel free to stop by on Tuesday, September 3rd between 9:00-3:00 to get put into our system and save time on the first day of school. Then you will be able to scan your ID in our lobby and have your badge printed each time you visit.

Sign Up for Extended Care, Clubs & Fall Sports!
Starting this fall, Extended Care/Clubs will be available at a flat rate on a six week rotation to allow flexibility for families to choose from 1 to 5 days of extended care per week according to your needs. The monthly rate will vary based on the number of days your child attends, allowing you to customize their after-school schedule as it suits your family.
As always, we will offer partial scholarships to families who qualify for government assistance, ensuring that our extended care program remains accessible to all students.
We are able to accommodate all of our families that would like to take part in our Extended Care program. There is no worry of being put on a waitlist.
