Book Flood

Last year Mountain View High School Library had their first annual Book Flood, a spinoff idea from Iceland’s Jolabokaflod, or the “Christmas Book Flood.” It was such a hit that they did it again along with Bend Senior High and Summit High Schools. These teacher librarians collected books all year in anticipation of the Book Flood in December. It’s quite an undertaking, gathering such a large number of books which range from children’s books, to young adult, to adult. They generally consist of gently used books, however some of them look brand new. So you may be wondering what exactly is a Book Flood. Well, it’s an event in the library where you can come get free books along with free gift wrapping – perfect for holiday gift giving! There is music, treats and a great time to be had by all. Jessica Lorentz Smith, at Bend Senior High, had a brilliant idea to pre-cut wrapping paper to help with efficiency. As you can see from the pictures, it was a blast and definitely worth repeating. So if you missed it this year, I’m sure you can catch it next year!
