I loved that video this morning! We really take so much for granted every day and I appreciated that humorous way to make that sink and be more grateful for the little things. Marieka – thank you for getting the video.
100-Year Celebration Committee
It’s time to think about this celebration for next year. I met with Barbry to pick her brain about the 90th celebration and I have a storage bin of all that stuff. We have some Site Council Parent members interested, however from what I understand we probably need to extend the invitation to a wider audience as well. My hope is to form a dedicated group ready to start planning in January or early February. I am in uncharted territory here, so please provide some guidance for what you want here.
iPad Keyboards
With our students utilizing the keyboards with iPads more often we are starting to see more of these hardware pieces breaking or simply not functioning. Unfortunately we do not have replacements available to us so we are on our own to replace these. Keyboards are $35 apiece, so this expense could add up quickly. What I would like to ask of you right now is to share and redistribute our current inventory with each other to make sure everyone who needs a keyboard has access at the time (we never seem to be using all these at the same time). As we move into next year, I will look into a bulk order to replace all malfunctioning keyboards and pick up a few extras to provide replacements. I also want to do my best to avoid the complication of buying a keyboard that won’t work with the future updated iPads (with whatever connection, adapter Apple decides to develop at the time).
PLC
I shared the description in italics below in August 2017 (so it’s been awhile) so I wanted to revisit this description for everyone’s benefit. The general description below is still accurate as far as our intent for these meetings, however I have not required specific agendas or meeting notes (although some of you have provided these for me which I do appreciate). I will attempt to provide a concrete example of how this can work using this past week; Last Wednesday we had a great SIW with Kerry which left many of you wanting more time with your teams to dig into your math lessons and identify when and where you could use number talks. This past Tuesday was a scheduled PLC so it would have been the perfect time to count on having your team ready to follow up with the work from the SIW. So in an ideal world when we finish our work in an SIW and want more time with our team to continue the work, the next PLC should provide that time. I will try to be better about identifying these times and calling them out either during the SIW or in the updates.
“Grade level professional development meetings (PLCs) – meetings designed for professional learning, examining growth mindset practices, practicing math best practices, observing model-lessons on differentiation, sharing data for formative decisions….
In many cases the agenda will be predetermined by our school design work. Agendas and meeting notes will be completed on google docs (format to be provided).
Grade Level PLCs will occur approximately once a month.”
Master Schedule 2019-2020 (Does “2020” jump out to anyone else?!?!?)
With the start times changing next year, it might be a good time to consider revising our master schedule. Linked below is our current schedule shifted by one hour to start at 8:00am. I posed some questions with our leadership group last week to share with you, so please take a little time to think about this (even though this is a long way off, it’s good to get a start soon if we revise).
Heated Walkway
You may have noticed are “heated” walkway between the buildings is not working so well. The problem was finally identified and now Brad has a method to manually override when necessary so we finally have a solution in place. Thank you to Brad for sticking with the problem and getting it resolved!
