“People often want to know ‘what works’ in education, but the simple truth is that everything works somewhere, and nothing works everywhere.”

Goodbye Party for Barbry
The Deans are hosting a goodbye party for Barbry on January 12th. More details to follow later, but Paul asked me to please save the date and spread the word.
Gifts Galore and More!
A huge thank you to the 4/5 team and students for running such fun community-building events these past days. Every aspect form the giving and receiving, to the guiding and the following, for our students is a wonderful phenomenon to witness and I am very appreciative of everyone’s contribution to making it all work so well. I sincerely hope everyone’s buckets are feeling filled.
Little Trees
The little trees you got yesterday morning are a type of spruce. They should be able to be transferred into the ground in the spring if you want to plant them outside or they should do well in a larger pot if you want to keep them indoors. My intent was to find a gift that had potential to grow and thrive, as is my wish for you all. I really hope you enjoy them!
Room 17 Leak
FYI – we had some water sneak its way into room 17 during the downpour on Tuesday morning. This was extremely frustrating to discover considering the work that went into those walls, however it appears the water is entering from further up the building. We have our construction team working on this to come up with a solution.
PTO teacher rep
During leadership we have been discussing teacher representation at PTO meetings. Cami and Marieka are both up for this challenge and would like to suggest we go ahead move forward in this manner. Cami and Marieka will be charged with attending the meetings (possibly attending PTO-board meetings when necessary) representing and we will establish some time either during staff meetings or SIWs for us to have any dialog as a staff. I would not discourage anyone else form attending meetings, but I would encourage you to use them for the teachers’ unified voice during those meetings. Thank you, Cami and Marieka for stepping forward for this responsibility.
Upcoming Field Trips
As an added communication measure I will do my best to keep this as a standing update with field trips occurring during the upcoming couple weeks. I will take the information from our google calendar so please help me keep it accurate and let me know when corrections are needed.
1/8/19 – 9:15 -1:45 – Martinson/Vickery Field Trip
1/9/19 – 9:15 -1:45 – Woock/Green Field Trip
Math Learning Opportunity
The link below is an online course designed for educators. This particular one shows some potential for providing tips for how technology can actually enhance and support teaching rather than add a burden to the mix. Please let me know if you are interested in this opportunity.

Laptop Upgrade
We received our next allotment of 7 upgraded laptops. After we return from winter break, I will work with Rob to identify the oldest Mac Airs which can be rotated out. Unfortunately these new laptops do have different input/outputs so (of course) there will be some new Apple dongles needed for certain conditions. The good news, is we will be less dependent on those adapters with the apple TVs in place.
