Colleagues,
Below are some notes for next week and beyond. I hope you have a great weekend!
Welcome Miriam Dunn! Miriam was selected by our interview team this week to serve as our 2 hour secretary.

Carole’s SIOP tip of the week: Clear explanation of academic tasks:
Three ELL’s in the second grade said that it helps them when their teachers explain things step by step. They complimented Mrs. Gylling, Mrs. VanHorn, and Mr. Roberts. They said that in each one of those classrooms they understand what is going on because their teachers explain things clearly. Their teachers explain tasks well and model demonstrations first before students participate.
On Hattie’s scale it is rated as a potential to considerably accelerate student achievement.
Amplify Teacher Editions-Below is a list by grade level of the units in Amplify. Your team should have a teacher edition for each. If you are missing one or discover you have a title that is not in your grade level strand please let Pam know. Thank you!

Launch below to a cognitively demanding Lucy lesson on dialogue.

Mathematical sense making in 1st grade! As teachers we know how important it is that students understand mathematics and not just recite facts or execute computational procedures and it is cool to see this developing in our five and six year olds.

This will be the third year Bend-La Pine Schools will use the personal safety curriculum Safe Touch. We are providing interested families multiple opportunities to learn about this safety and sexual abuse prevention curriculum in the coming weeks. (This info was in the newsletter and your help also messaging it home is appreciated!)
- Tuesday, October 23rd at 3:45 in the Media Center families can learn about the curriculum and also preview.
- During Conferences families can preview the curriculum in the Main Office and then follow up with Lybe or I with questions.
Lybe or I will be teaching Safe Touch to your students this year and will coordinate dates for instruction with your team before Spring Break.
Tech Services will be providing HDMI Splitters for our classrooms! They have been ordered and should arrive soon.

Some role playing during a third grade SEL activity. This instructional move really increased the cognitive demand in the lesson!
