September 7

Colleagues,

Thank you for such a great first week of school!  You all have worked so hard to get classrooms set-up, to be ready to greet families at Open House, to make the first day of school the best one ever, and then to maintain that energy and excitement throughout the week…you did it…and really, really did it well!

Raptor Registration and Volunteer Drive:  Thank you for encouraging the families of your students to register in Raptor the next time they are on campus.  The more families we can get to register (even if they are not planning to volunteer and say, just join us for the BBQ in May) speeds up the sign-in process when they come to visit or volunteer.  A state/government issued ID and 4-5 minutes of time is all it takes.  Thank you!

Volunteers:  Thank you for also reminding families that to volunteer they must do the above (Raptor registration) and also complete the volunteer application on the Bend-La Pine Schools web site.  Even if a person is just considering helping to chaperone on a field trip in the winter, I would encourage them to complete the application now.  Unless a person completed a school district volunteer application after January 1, 2018 they will need to complete a new one.  Below is the link.  Thank you!

Lion Pride Update and Prizes:  Thank you for your efforts recognizing so many of our Lions this week!  With the secure lobby and student traffic in mind we have continued to think through options for student turn-in of Lion Prides and the system for drawings.  We have a new plan (back to the old one) with a couple of adjustments.  Here’s the latest:

  • Students can turn in Lion Prides everyday at lunches.  We will have a 5 gallon bucket students can put their Lions Prides in before they sit down or on their way to recess.
  • Prize:  Frozen Treat with Lybe and I.  We will randomly call about 10-15 students per week.  We may have weeks when we expand the options to include other items like Papa Murphy’s,  Mountain Air, etc.

Information below from the Transportation Department-New this year, Bend-La Pine Schools families will be able to opt into a system that will allow them track when their child enters and exits the school bus with the new Radio Frequency Identification Device cards (RFID). Participating students will receive a unique card embedded with a chip. Students will scan their RFID cards when entering and exiting the bus. The scanner will log the location and time of entries or exits. Parents can view this data using the MyStop app available for download on the Bend-La Pine Schools website.

Interested parents or guardians can fill out the RFID consent form, available at our website. Upon completion, parents can drop off the form with the Transportation Department between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (501 SE Second St. in Bend or 16350 First St. in La Pine) or at the school office.
