For our second of four Educator Network days, the ICCL Team will be leading classroom teachers through a session on the revised state of Oregon math standards. These standards were adopted in 2021 and students will not be assessed on them until the spring of 2025. At most grade levels, the revisions are minimal. Time on Wednesday will be spent learning about the changes, exploring a document that has been correlated to the revised standards for upcoming Bridges (+Number Corner) units and for planning time with your team.

Here is a full list of all of the January 10 Educator Network activities.

The Task Force on School Climate and Culture has asked that each school have location/activity specific expectations posted at sites. You will find these expectations near the bathrooms, in the office, by the doors to the playground, and also on the bulletin board by the lunch room.  In your mailbox is a set of three posters (all settings, classroom, and iPads) for your classroom.  Thank you for helping our Lions know our expectations!

From the Teaching and Learning Department:

-Please share with your staff, these direct Links to Partner Up activities in Wayfinder: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th

-Please share this document with teachers on how to mark a lesson/activity complete in Wayfinder. This is a helpful tool for keeping track of which lessons have been taught.

Two Notes from the Tech Department:

-Lately, there have been issues successfully streaming content to classroom Apple TVs. Apple TVs use AirPlay to display what is on your computer with your classroom projector. However, as of late, streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime have seemed to block their content being shown via this method. This is not something we can fix; this is intentional to try and stop folks copying their content. When video streaming is necessary in the classroom, teachers must physically connect their laptops to the HDMI wall outlet with cable and dongle, switch HDMI inputs on the projector and turn off Screen Mirroring on their Mac to the Apple TV.

-Please ensure that in your classroom, your HDMI wall outlet is being protected from furniture and being strained/pulled on. The cost to replace these outlets when they fail is around $500 and comes from our school budget. The port is delicate and can be easily damaged.

Congratulations to Avery Burger who interviewed and was selected to join the Special Programs team. Avery’s 3 hour EA position has been posted and we plan to interview soon.

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is November 14th. Here is a link with more information. We are including information about this event in our next newsletter.

From the Tech Department: When to use the IT Help Ticket System: There are several ways to communicate with IT support staff, the most effective is our ticket system.  If you have a quick question, call the Help Desk (extension 1200) or shoot an email to your Client Service tech.  But if you have an expectation, or a request that will require action, you should ONLY use the Help Ticket system.
Why?

  • A ticket directs your request to one of 30 IT staff that is best suited to answer your question
  • It is the only communication method that will alert IT support if it remains unanswered

There’s an easy URL to get to our ticket system: bls.fyi/help. You can also find a shortcut right on your Mac: click the little circular “life preserver” icon in your top toolbar near your date & time and choose IT Help Ticket.

Congratulations to Madeline Fulkerson who was awarded an Ed Foundation Impact Grant to purchase resources for students
