Brandon and Assistant Coach, Alex Winslow (Kirstin’s daughter), and the Lava Bear Swim Team will be competing this weekend at the State Swim Meet in Beaverton.
Thank you so much for letting Amber, Laci or I know if you ever need to leave during the day due to illness or other emergencies. In these situations, Amber can provide support in arranging for a sub ASAP (she’s fast and has contacts! 🙂 ) or we can potentially adjust other schedules to provide coverage.
UKG is live! Keep an eye on the UKG Implementation and Training website in the staff portal for updated training videos and documents, instructions on what to do if you are encountering problems, and all kinds of other useful resources.
Please continue to use Frontline’s Absence Management/Aesop to request time off (illness,personal, bereavement). No need to use UKG for this.

From Kinsey Martin: Interested in getting your ESOL endorsement for free?Bend-La Pine Schools has a partnership with OSU to cover all tuition and costs associated with ESOL certification. We have had several cohorts of teachers selected for this opportunity in prior years, who have earned their ESOL endorsement with no cost, moved over on the pay scale, and are better equipped to serve our students and families! Our new scheduling secretary, Kim Johnson, will be at Lava on Tuesday and Friday next week. We are hoping to have Kim here full-time in the next couple of weeks.
On Monday, February 6th from 3:00-4:30pm there will be an optional workshop (attendees will be paid via time-sheet @ curriculum rate) at Bear Creek to provide resources and have dialogue about Erin’s Law, the Menstrual Dignity Act and Sexuality Education Resources for elementary teachers. From the recent Bend-La Pine Schools, family communication-The deadline for Attendance Area Change Requests or to apply for a choice option school for 1st-12th grade students for the 2023-24 school year is 3 p.m. on Jan. 2. May 1st is the deadline for kindergarteners.
The YouthTruth survey window opened this week. We are planning to send information to families including a link to the survey in our weekly home communication. We will take the staff survey later in the month.

Wednesday: SIW: QPR Suicide Prevention Training @ 1:45 in the Media Center
We are continuing to interview for both the Scheduling Secretary and Media Manager positions. We have completed one round of interviews for each and will continue to work on this in January. We have arranged for a substitute in the Media Center for the first two weeks of January.
We will be a host for the Educator Network Day on January 11th from 2:00-3:15. More details next year. 🙂

From the Bend Science Station: Announcing an exciting professional development opportunity at the Science Station! Over the past few years, they realigned the Amplify curriculum for grades 2-5 to make it manageable and relevant for Bend-La Pine teachers. In addition, they designed POP Science, which includes a short sequence of NGSS-aligned, hands-on science lessons for each grade level. This January, they will conduct teacher “refresher” trainings on 2nd-5th grade modified Amplify units and on K-1 POP Science lessons. These HANDS-ON workshops combine interactive instruction and time to collaborate with grade-level peers. You will practice and walk away with specific lessons for your classroom. Even if you’ve done these workshops before, we encourage you to participate again.
Sessions run from 3-6 pm and will take place at the Bend Science Station on the OSU-C campus. You will be compensated by the district at the curriculum rate for your time. In addition, the Science Station will be offering food and drinks.
