Welcome to a new year! I know some of the information ahead may be on the late side, but I wanted to respect your off time this summer and not hit you with a bunch of stuff before you got back. So I waited until the first Friday you returned to pile it on. :-/
Below is a list of some things that are probably already on your calendar, but important to remind you of anyway.

Leadership Meeting- This is fast approaching. Please remember to bring hard copies of your School Design Plan (in case connectivity gets spotty). Please remember to let Andrea know how many from you school will be attending if you haven’t already done so.
Horizontal Meeting- Trying to find a date/time for us to all get together this August that is not during in the middle of a week already full of meetings and trainings has been quite the challenge. In fact, I don’t think I accomplished it. That being said, I would like to schedule our horizontal August meeting for Friday, August 18. We will start at 8:30 and I’ll have you out of there before 11:30. I realize that some of you will be at Mary Ehrenworth and some of you will be on your way out of town to view an eclipse and some of you just finished two days of take me up training and some of you just don’t want to be there :-). But, it was the best I could do. If you are unable (not unwilling) to make it, let me know and I’ll do my best to fill you in.
Title- Yesterday we received our final Title allocation. It is an understatement to say that it was shocking. Our final allocation was about $125,000 less than the initial allocation they gave us in June. That has obviously created a challenge. JoAnne is back on Monday and we will go to work trying to figure out how to make it work ASAP so that you can move forward. In the meantime, we will hold any hiring that is Title. If you have already posted and set up interviews, you can move forward, but we won’t approve hiring of any Title position until we have a new budget set. Please be sure that your staffing plan is up to date with correct funding sources. That will help HR to know what is ok to approve. My apologies and thank you for your understanding. Numbers- Daily enrollment watch has begun! I’ll be checking frequently to look for hot spots. Please let me know if you have a grade that I should watching closely. We’ll do our best to address things as soon as we are logically able.
Conference Calendar- There are a couple changes to the calendar around conferences that you should be aware of if you are not already. The 11:45 dismissal day a week before conferences is going away. That will be a regular 2:00 SIW dismissal. The SIW day is to be devoted to conference prep. The Wednesday of conference week will be a NO STUDENT teacher work day. Conferences will remain the same: Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and either a) Noon to 8:00 P.M. Thursday and 8:00 A.M. to Noon Friday, or b) 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday and off Friday. As in the past, the decision between a and b should be consensus by school. Please call me if you have any questions.
From Julianne Re: Elementary Raptor Rollout–
Thank you for your support of the Raptor visitor/volunteer management system rolling out to all elementary and K-8 schools this fall. Installation will be taking place at your schools in the coming weeks. Training for principals will take place on August 18 at our Horizontal. Julianne and Scott will announce multiple training dates for office staff next week. See below for review of previous information:
From Julianne on June 2- ELECTRONIC VISITOR/VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT-
Several school sites, as well as the Education Center, have been testing electronic visitor management systems for the last 18 months. Raptor (www.raptortech.com) Technologies has been selected as the preferred provider for these services. The Raptor Visitor Management System allows us to better track visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools. A proposal to roll Raptor out into our schools is currently in development.
A suggestion was made, during a recent meeting, to roll Raptor out to all elementary school sites in August. Training, communication to parents and staff and ‘sign up’ events would be scheduled to support you during this transition. Please let me know if you would NOT support this move next fall and would wait an additional year to implement at your school until a time that it is required.
