Smoke- Please refer to Julianne’s release re: smoke conditions and our plan moving forward. As mentioned, we will check air quality numbers at 6 am, 9 am and noon and let you know if you should keep students inside for recess. If you don’t hear anything, the readings at the above mentioned times were acceptable. You do, however, have the latitude to make the call yourself as conditions around town do vary. What is happening at Elk Meadow may look different than Lava Ridge or Three Rivers. You can use your judgement. Please also work closely with people (students and staff) who have health conditions or sensitivity and provide an alternative for them if needed during outdoor recesses/activities.
School Visits- Please be sure to sign up here for a school visit in September if you haven’t already done so. I will send out a sign up for October visits in a couple of weeks. The focus of that visit will be your school design plan. Please be sure you have the latest version updated on the school design google doc.

Numbers- Things are fast and furious trying to keep up with changing numbers. We have added 4 classrooms at elementary in the biggest areas of need and have taken staff from two schools to address needs at others. As of this writing we are over the staffing ratio at 26 of 108 grades/schools. 7 kinders, 4 firsts, and 15 third through fifths. Most of these are only one or two over the ratio, not high enough to add, but please know we will continue to watch closely. We will factor in all district numbers, all elementary numbers as well as whole school and individual grades when making decisions. We won’t be adding 26 teachers in order to get all under the ratio, but will do our best to continue to address areas of biggest need. I appreciate how patient, cooperative, understanding, and ‘big picture’ many of you have been as we have worked on this the last couple of weeks. I’ll be in all day Tuesday continuing to watch and am available by cell this weekend.
