District SIW’s- Please see this link for information regarding district SIW’s. This information will be delivered to teachers on Monday.

Horizontal Meeting- We will be meeting on Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Three Rivers. Yes, I know that is a long ways away. Sorry. I know that might be a pain for some of you, but I thought I’d share the wealth and let our south county schools have a meeting they don’t have to leave so early for. If you are on bus duty or can’t get out of your building by a decent time in order to make it there without missing half the meeting, I understand.  I just think it will be nice to check out a different site and hey, I could’ve said Rosland for our January meeting!

New Hire Training If you have hired new teachers K-5 who were unable to attend the ‘new hire training’ on August 24th and 25th, we are offering another day of training.  It will be on September 28th from 8am-4pm (location to be determined).  School sites will need to cover sub costs.  The schedule will be as follows: 8-10am- Units of Study for writing, 10-12pm- Bridges for math, 12-1pm- lunch, 1-2pm- Bridges for math (number corner) and 2-4pm- Wonders for reading.  Please ask teachers to sign up on PD PLACE.  If you have any questions feel free to contact Lindsley Gehrig.  This will be an invaluable training for your newbies and I highly encourage you to let them attend if at all possible.

Visits- I’ve really enjoyed being in your schools the past week or so visiting classrooms. Thank you for all of your time. I had one visit in particular this past week that reminded me of the impact we can have. A teacher shared with me that she had gone through a very serious health issue last school year. She went on to tell me that her principal was amazing throughout her whole ordeal. She then shared that he is always incredibly kind to her and in every interaction that he has with all students, staff and parents. She then said she wanted to add one more thing about his kindness. She said every time she watches how well he treats everyone, it inspires her to treat other people more kindly. She wants to live up to the example and model that her principal sets for everyone. This is an awesome story about the power of how we treat people and a real life illustration of people not caring how much you know until they know how much you care.

Below you will find important safety notes and links from Julianne.

Annual Safety Training and Drills

With the welcome of a new school year comes the opportunity to complete annual safety drills. The state requires that you complete your first fire drill within the first 10 days of school. If you have not yet completed your first drill, please try to get it done on Monday. Check out the attached document for details:

Radios

Schools and programs can use the handy order form, attached, to order replacement radios or batteries that complement their existing systems using their current school budgets. The District hopes to roll out a district wide, interoperable radio system that will allow schools to connect with one another, central administration, buses and emergency responders as soon as the fall of 2018.
