November 16

Headstart- I recently met with Charmaine Browning from Head Start to discuss ways to make the transition from Head Start to schools a smoother, more effective process. One of the things I asked her to do was provide us a list of students in Head Start with their prospective schools. Our hope is that with this list, schools may be able to reach out to families pointed their way. We believe this could accomplish many things including:

  • Ensuring these students get registered on time
  • Creating an early connection to the school
  • Helping schools get to know these students and their needs ahead of time, eliminating the surprises we often get

The above linked roster includes email contacts and you are welcome to use those to reach out to prospective families. Please use this as you see fit. Once again, this is an effort to help the transition for students, families and schools.

CPR/ First Aid- Updated list of CPR/First Aid certifications in schools. Let me know if you see a mistake.

Co-Teaching- If you are interested in learning more about co-teaching with ELL or Sped teams, this opportunity may be for you. If you have any questions about this, contact Josh Marks. I know that Elk Meadow and Bear Creek are already doing some co-teaching and can probably answer some questions as well.

School Retool- The High Desert ESD is partnering with Stanford D.School to bring some professional development to school leaders in our region around reimagining schools with the use of small, scrappy experiments called “hacks”.  These research based hacks lead to best practices around deeper learning and design thinking.

4 full-day School Retool workshops:

  • Thursday, January 24, 2019
  • Thursday, February 21, 2019
  • Thursday, March 14, 2019
  • Thursday, April 16, 2019

Cost of the program is $2500/administrator. Secured local fundraising will cover $1000 of that cost. Bend-La Pine School District will cover $1000. This leaves an approximate cost of $500/participant remaining for the principals to cover from their building budgets.  Applications are due no later than Sunday, November 25th.Contact me with any questions or if you are interested in applying.

I hope you all have an amazing Thanksgiving and week off. I have much to be thankful for including working with such a skilled, dedicated, passionate group of educators who make a huge difference for the kids and families you serve. Thank you for all you do. I hope you get a few minutes in the next week to reflect on all of the things you are thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving.
