Dyslexia Training- In July of 2015, Senate Bill 612 was passed by the Oregon Legislature. SB 612, AKA the Dyslexia bill, requires dyslexia screening for all K and 1 students and each school to have one person receive training related to dyslexia. Dibels will suffice for the screening. The training is a little more complicated. We have worked with our regional partners to provide the most efficient training to meet the requirements of SB 612.  Please select one person from your school to receive the training. Your selection should be the person primarily responsible for reading intervention in your school (Title teacher, reading interventionist if you are not a title school, ERC teacher if you don’t have a reading interventionist). In addition, if the person doing reading intervention at your school is going to retire or maybe leave at the end of the year, select someone else, as you will have to have at least one person in your building who is “trained.” Subs will be paid for by TLC through a grant provided by the state. Please code ‘dyslexia training.’ This flyer provides the dates for the training. Please have your selected representative sign up on PD place as soon as possible. Thank you and please give me a call if you have any questions.

School Start Time Committee- As was shared at our last leadership meeting, the January 23 board meeting will be a community linkage meeting focused on school start times. This media release explains what the January 23 board meeting will look like. In addition, I’m linking the report the committee gave to Shay. I’d love to invite any and all of you who would like to attend this meeting to provide any input/insight you may have as your understanding of elementary school students and families would be very valuable. Please RSVP (see media release) if you plan to attend. Please call if you have any questions.

Neighborhood Impact Head Start Family Nights- For several years, Neighborhood Impact has held family nights that have been attended by our kindergarten teachers. These nights begin with a dinner and are followed by an information/ question/ answer session that our kindergarten teachers have helped with. The family nights are coming up once again and Neighborhood Impact is looking for some kindergarten teachers. We need two teachers on the night of Thursday, February 8, beginning at 5:30. TLC will pay the teachers for their time. If you have an interested teacher, please let me know. First come, first served. Thank you.

Important HR Dates- Jon Lindsay sent you an email on 12.18.17 regarding needed communication with HR around a couple of topics.  First, Probationary Three Letters  of Support need to be sent to him no later than Jan. 26. (His email identified whom the 3rd year employees are at each building.) Second, no later than January 16, Jon would like you to communicate with him regarding any certified staff you have concerns with.  I know a few of you who have already given Jon a heads-up, but if not, please do so early next week.
