April 12

Well, that was a busy week! Thanks to everyone involved in the transfer process. You were amazing. I am blown away by the collaboration, professionalism, collegiality and big picture approach that was present in every conversation I had with you. While we didn’t bat a thousand, because of your thinking, flexibility and selflessness, I believe we were able to place most people in a spot that was at least beneficial to them if not enthusiastically embraced. I was reminded this week how fortunate I am to work with and have principals like you leading our buildings. Thank you.

Equity Lense Activity-This is just a reminder that we’d like for you to work with your leadership teams and “walk” one major site decision through an equity lens (Lora talked about this at a previous Leadership meeting). Lora has previously shared some questions for you to consider when you do this “walk” – and here are some examples of additional questions you might consider. I will ask that you be prepared to share your equity walk at our May 20 Horizontal meeting.

DART- Austin plans to send an email to all principals offering to visit their site to support them with any data needs they have this spring.  He understands it is a busy time of year.  Admins can schedule a visit only if they feel it would be helpful.  Possible topics for discussion might include:

  • DART specific questions
  • Where/how to get data that might help in forecasting for next fall
  • Ideas for new upstream measures in the school design plan
  • Strategies for effective data use throughout the school year
  • Any other data needs they have

Robert Putnam Opportunity- If you would like to attend this presentation, please contact Lora directly. She will take the first nine to call.

McDonald’s Grants- I recently sent this out and am asking for you to take another look to see if you might be able to find a use for these funds. So far, only one school has submitted a grant application.

McDonald’s of Bend local mission is to help as many students as possible in our communities reach their fullest potential.  This program is part of our commitment to our community.  We want to give even more back to our community and that for us begins with education.

We have attached information about our Grant Program, including our Mission Statement, Guidelines and Application.  We encourage you to apply for this Grant. Awards between $250.00 and $1000.00 will be given to the selected school(s) who meet our criteria and are selected.   We request grant applications support Academics, Athletics, Arts or General (something the entire school will benefit from).

Last year our recipients were:

  • Sisters High School: AVID
  • LaPine Elementary: Track
  • Rosland Elementary: Purposeful Play
  • Silver Rail Elementary: Spheros
  • West Village Magnet Elementary School: Community Garden Fence
  • Elk Meadow Elementary: Effective Behavior and Instructional Support System

Application need to be returned by April 15, 2019

Out Next Week- Just a reminder that I will be out from Monday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. I will be available by cell or email.

That is all for this week.
