DIY PD: Creating Your Own Personal Learning Network

As educators, can it be safely assumed that we all enjoy being life-long learners? Think about it for a second. You might enjoy learning about skiing, scrapbooking, technology, teaching content, cooking, cars, etc.,. We are all continually learning.

With a wealth of information just at our fingertips, it is critical that we find a way to curate that knowledge so that it works for us. How many of us are able to get away to conferences or to visit other dynamic classrooms, or to even meet with our fellow co-workers to plan and learn together? Through the development of your own personal learning network, you can grow in ways you’ve never imagined. You can connect with and learn from people across the world. Here are a few areas that can help get you started:

Twitter (Who knew this was more than just hearing what someone ate for lunch? It’s pretty cool when an author tweets you back!)

Google + (This is more than another Facebook. You can join communities – English, Math, SS, Science – to get and give answers/ideas.)

Feedly or Flipboard (Get blogs, articles that come right to you. These are great to read on the fly – whether you’re waiting for your kids or in the grocery line. I have learned amazing things through Feedly.)

Pinterest (This is a fantastic visual way to learn!)

Please contact one of us to get you going. You can start small and grow big!
