Lexia Sample Parent Letter

Dear Families,

We have been given an amazing opportunity for all students in Bend LaPine (grades K-8th), to have access to the Lexia Core5 reading program, until June 30th of this year!

Lexia Core5 is a research-based reading program.  It is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and covers the six areas of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension).

When your child logs onto Lexia for the first time, the program will have him or her complete an auto-placement, to ensure that the instruction they get is targeted to your child’s unique instructional need.

While your child is on Lexia Core5, you may repeat the direction for him or her, but please do not help!  With your help, your student may move through the lessons more quickly than they are ready.  A unique and wonderful component of Lexia Core5 is when your child makes a mistake.  When a mistake is made, the program will deliver the corrective feedback that your child needs and will adjust the instruction and re-teach skills that your child has not mastered yet.

Research suggests that 20 minutes of Lexia a day is ideal, as a starting point.  When your child has gone through the auto-placement, the program may adjust the recommended usage, based on the goal for your child.  After logging in, you will be able to see how many minutes he or she has been on and how close he or she is to completing the weekly goal.
