Realms Newsletter #13: 4/22/24

Happy Earth Day, Crew!

One of the original EL Education Design Principles is The Natural World:

“A direct and respectful relationship with the natural world refreshes the human spirit and teaches the important ideas of recurring cycles and cause and effect. Students learn to become stewards of the earth and of future generations.”

We try to live into this Design Principle at Realms!

  • Today our school celebrated by launching our next phase of our composting program.
  • Our 6th Graders are in the middle of their “Waste Less, Nourish More” expedition.
  • Our 10th Graders are in the middle of their “Frog in the Pot” expedition, and are hard at work preparing for their Better World Day projects.

“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.” – R. W. Emerson

I encourage us all to take a moment of appreciation for the natural world 🌎

Thank you,

Zach Harju, Interim Principal

For parents and caregivers of students in grades 4-10: Join us at our SafetyNet training at Realms Middle School on Thursday, May 2nd, from 5:30-8pm. You will learn more about online risks to children and how to prevent them. Dinner provided by Longboard Louie’s. Register here.

Back in January we invited students, families, and staff to take the YouthTruth survey. If you would like to see and hear some of the results (and next steps), check out the video below!

Does your child excel and excited by mathematics? If your child is interested in bypassing a grade level in math, we will be hosting a bypass test that could allow your child to skip a grade of Math. This test is available to 6th and 7th grade students who may want to bypass a grade. Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the bypass assessment.

You can let us know that you’d like your 6th or 7th grader to take the Math Bypass Test by emailing Zach ([email protected])

Saturday, May 11th is this year’s Rubbish Renewed Eco Fashion Show. If you have never been to this Realms fundraiser I HIGHLY recommend attending!
