“CONFLUENCE” at RMS – permission forms!
Every year we start off at RMS with a community building experience known as “Confluence”! This year, our Confluence experience takes place on Monday Sept 12th.
6th and 7th Grade Students will be walking to Pine Nursery Park for a day of Teambuilding in Crews and Grade Based groups.
8th Graders will be bussing to Tumalo State Park for similar activities as well as a short hike to the confluence of Tumalo Creek and the Deschutes River!
Because we are going off campus, we DO need ALL students to have a signed permission form turned in by Thursday Sept 8th.
Please download the correct permission form above, and either complete/sign it electronically or print it. You may email your permission form directly to our Curriculum Secretary at [email protected] OR print it and turn it in to our office anytime (but before Sept. 9th)
Student Schedules at RMS – Choose Your Electives Now!
We are SUPER EXCITED about our new bell schedule and new class offerings this year at Realms Middle! The move to our new campus has allowed us to decrease class sizes during Crew, bring back an elective program, and much more!
Curriculum Overview Including Elective Descriptions
Elective “Forecasting” Form – complete this before school!
Links to 6th – 7th – 8th Grade Daily Schedules
A-B Class Lists – Students will be placed into A and B cohorts (for ex. 7A or 7B) at the start of the trimester. They will travel in these cohorts for Math, Science, Humanities, and Art + Mind & Body. However, students will be in different groupings for Crew, Workshops and Electives! Our A and B classes will be announced the first week of school!
We take care to build our class lists carefully and thoughtfully and while we “never say never”, we do NOT typically switch students from A to B cohorts unless there are several reinforcing reasons to do so and the switch creates a win-win for all parties! It is typically done only after other interventions are attempted and as a last resort. Please do not call the office to request a switch!
PARKING LOT GUIDELINES – GO SLOW!
This year we will have many more students and staff arriving and departing from school each day, so it is even more important that we all agree on how to navigate the parking lot!

The west, smaller parking lot (Humm side) is reserved for school staff and shared with Humm employees. Please do not use that parking lot for waiting, drop-off, pick-up, or turnaround.
Buses will be looping around the back of the school in the morning and afternoon. This will free up the loop in our main parking lot for pick-up/drop-off. It also means that we will need to leave space for them to pull out, so please respect the signs and staff directing traffic.
Our small population size has allowed us to offer the main parking lot for all student drivers, as well as parent parking and we intend to continue this practice unless space becomes an issue.
RMS Redtails Cross Country Team
Attention runners and parents of runners! Realms Redtails middle school cross country starts on the first day of school!
Cross country is a great sport for anyone who loves to run or is willing to try! In order to participate in practice students need to have registered and have brought an up to date sports physical to the office. Use this link to register!
Parents who would like to volunteer to help at cross country, please provide your information to our coach Caleb using this form, and make sure to complete the background check linked in the forms description. Go Redtails!
A few updates and reminders about School Wide Expectations
Attendance:
We want our students here, on time, every day! Our engaging, student-centered instructional model (what attracted you to Realms!) is only effective if our students are present.
If your child cannot be at school, or if they will be late, it is important that parents/guardians call our ATTENDANCE LINE (541-355-5515) to report/excuse their absence!
If you do not call or email us, your student will be marked ABSENT – UNEXCUSED and you will receive an automated phone call saying your student was absent from class! If you get an attendance robocall that you believe to be a mistake, please follow-up with our attendance secretary Lisa Johnson (541-355-5504) to get this cleared up.
This year we will be tracking and unexcused absences and tardies closely and working hard to support every student in being AT SCHOOL and IN CLASS on time!
Tech (iPads, cell phones, ear buds, laptops):
- iPads MUST be fully charged when students arrive in the morning. Parents, please support your student with building and sustaining this habit.
- Last year, many students were checking out laptops when their iPads were at home or without a charge. These Macbooks are expensive and intended for specific educational purposes (for example, coding with Xcode, or using the Adobe Suite). As such, we will not be offering laptops as an alternative to the iPads this year. We do have plenty of keyboards that can attach to iPads available.
- MS CELL PHONE POLICY: Student phones are to be “off and away ALL DAY”. Parents, if you need to contact your child during the school day, the best way to reach them is through our front office.
- Cell phones are NOT allowed during passing periods or lunch, but ARE allowed before and after school.
- Ear buds/headphones follow the same policy as cell phones. They must be away all day unless explicitly invited by their teacher.
- If a student is using their phone/ear buds when they aren’t supposed to, they will be asked to turn it in to their teacher. The teacher will “bag and tag” the phone (to maintain student privacy), and it can be picked up from the front office at the end of the day. If a student’s phone use is becoming a regular issue, we will ask parents to pick up a confiscated phone instead.
