DISORIENTATION – A DAY OF COMMUNITY BUILDING & FUN – THIS THURSDAY!
Next Thursday, 5/27 we are excited to be doing something a little different… an end-of-year “DISorientation” at Pine Nursery Park! Our awesome 11th-grade class has been taking the lead on designing a day of fun and community-building activities for the whole school. This is for ALL RHS students grades 9 – 12!!
Permission Form Required! If your student brought home a Field Trip/Activity release form recently, this is what it is for. If you haven’t seen a permission slip come home yet, please download, sign and return this one by no later than Tuesday May 25th.
Students may either start their day with us at school at 9:20 as usual OR for students who drive or who prefer to be dropped off directly at Pine Nursery, we will meet by the Pavilion Pine Nursery Park by 10:15AM (map below).
Students who start with us on campus depart campus and will walk together (1.6 miles) to Pine Nursery, arriving by 10:15. Students will be required to stay at the park through lunch, and we will walk back to campus by the end of the day. As such, please help make sure your student arrives with the following:
- Good shoes for walking
- Water!
- Lunch and snack
- Water!
- Sunscreen
Once again, we are SO excited for this event! These are the kind of events that are possible with a small school and awesome staff… and exactly the kind of thing we hope to do much, much more next year! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

A WORD ABOUT SKYLINE HIGH SCHOOL AND REALMS…
As you have probably already read in my email from last week, Skyline High School will not operate as a separate high school next year. There are some deeper reasons for this decision including signifiant staff turnover there (50% of the teaching staff, plus the Principal and the Office Manager had all decided to leave prior to this decision), as well as increasing “enrollment pressure” for next year (they had fewer than 25 freshman confirmed to attend), as well as some questions about future facility possibilities. In the end, the decision to operate one high school on the Brinson campus and to allow any interested Skyline students to join us makes a lot of sense for all kids, including Skyline AND Realms students!
Realms HS will remain SMALL next year – probably at or under 200 students, and that’s a great size! We are truly excited about the possibility of gaining a few excellent new teachers from Skyline who already believe and have experience in the same kinds of teaching we care about here at Realms. We are also excited about the possibility of adding interested Skyline students to our community… together we will be stronger.
Please know that many Skyline families are struggling with this news. They love Skyline in the same way our students and families love Realms. As a part of a District that cares about ALL kids, we are here to support them by being open to students who are excited to stay. Many may choose to stay and join us at Realms, many may choose other options in our District, and both are OK. What is most important is that we remember our “Crew” is bigger than just us at Realms… and this is a very real opportunity to walk our talk about inclusivity and the power of “being Crew” not just for ourselves, but also for others in times of need.
Feel free to email or call with any questions you have!
